ZaagTand Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Now this is a very strange site in dmoz. I think it a sort of keyword spam site. Harry's Greece Travel Guide http://www.harrys-athens-greece-guide.com/ found in http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Greece/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides/ And this one Aegen http://www.agn.gr/ found in http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Greece/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides/ Heliotropion (Under construction) http://heliotropion.com/ http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Greece/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides/
jonnyy Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Hi. The url weddings.co.uk appears in the following 4 cats but the site has not been updated for about 5 or 6 years(there's a competition with a closing date of July 2000 and a catalogue dated 2000) and has lots of dead links, missing pictures etc. Weddings.co.uk - Includes a UK services directory for everything from bridal wear to cakes, cars to honeymoons. Provides discussion forums to discuss bridal matters. -- http://www.weddings.co.uk Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Business and Economy: Event Planning: Weddings: Guides and Directories East of England Executive Chauffeurs - Chauffeurs and wedding car hire. -- http://www.weddings.co.uk/carhire/eastengl.htm Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: England: Cambridgeshire: Peterborough: Transport Wedding Customs and Superstitions - Interesting information regarding wedding customs and superstitions. -- http://www.weddings.co.uk/info/tradsupe.htm Society: Relationships: Weddings: Help and Advice Wedding Customs and Superstitions - Wedding customs and superstitions from the UK. -- http://www.weddings.co.uk/info/tradsupe.htm Society: Folklore: Literature: Superstitions
seanthesheepuk Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I think this is duplication and should not be allowed. # Harlequin Japanese & Magpie At Pet Planet - Information on Harlequin Japanese or Magpie rabbit. -- http://www.petplanet.co.uk/petplanet..._Harlequin.htm Recreation: Pets: Rabbits: Breeds: Harlequin (1) # Belgian Hare at Pet Planet - Information on small animal breed societies and local breed society details of the Belgian Hare. -- http://www.petplanet.co.uk/petplanet...lgian_Hare.htm Recreation: Pets: Rabbits: Breeds: Belgian Hare (1)
seanthesheepuk Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I think this link is in the wrong section? PetPlanet.co.uk - Interactive vet advice, local pet services database, breed selector, pet travel information and an online shop. -- http://www.petplanet.co.uk/ Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Recreation and Sports: Pets (1) It already exists in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Pets/ A bit spammy if you want my biased opinion!

jeanmanco Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 #2280 : These listings are both deep links from the same site, but each is about a different breed. So it's not a duplication. Deep links are permitted at the editor's discretion. Presumably the editor felt that these were both useful additions to somewhat thinly-populated categories.
jeanmanco Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 #2281 - Those two listings seem OK, but I have removed another one which seemed less appropriate.
eyecon Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Abuse/Spam/Blacklists/ Better Ethics Online - Publishes black list of spammers and seeks to promote online ethics. http://free.hostdepartment.com/b/beonline/better-ethics-online/ This blacklist hasn't been updated for at least three years. A list of sender addresses is questionable to begin with; An old list makes it entirely useless. Several links from the home page do not resolve (404) including "What is BEO" and "How to Become a Member/"
eyecon Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 http://dmoz.org/Society/Law/Legal_Information/Computer_and_Technology_Law/Internet/Unsolicited_Email/ I THINK that CAUCE.org gave up the ghost. It was dead for several months, came back in January and no longer resolves (except to a page indicating "unable to select database"). I subscribe to the RSS feed which crapped out about ten days ago. They gave up spamming a couple of years ago and the site's content is no longer associated, in any way, with anything to do with spam. The current contents are limited to: "Freedom's Army Mission: To promote the principles of Freedom and Democracy that are embraced within the US Constitution." "The Liberation Of Iraq" "The Sentencing Of The Shoe Bomber" "The Real Reason We Have A Thanksgiving Holiday"

eyecon Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Looks like there is a problem on the CAUCE server. Their national affiliates seem to still be operational. CAUCE is using Drupal CMS, a PHP suite that interfaces with MySQL. Apparently, this is a MySQL problem. I fully support CAUCE. AFAIK, this has been malfunctioning for more than a week. At what point does a continuing server malfunction become a reason for removal?
