Hi,

New here and trying fill out the application to become an editor. I keep getting this "Not a valid parameter." on the application.

I have changed this around and even tried in a different category. Still the same keeps coming up. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance

I have not seen that error before, so could you provide some more information to help us track it down: Which category are you trying to apply to? What are the URLs of the pages just before and just after you get the error? What is the precise text of the error message? Were you trying to apply from the same computer (IP address) as you are using to post here?

The Category is: Regional: North America: United States: Oregon: Metro Areas and Regions: Central: Business and Economy: Real Estate

The url remains the same: http://www.dmoz.org/public/apply

Precise text of the error:# Not a valid parameter.

The IP address is the same.

Hopefully this helps.

A little maybe.

I was able to submit an application to that category without any trouble, so it looks like it's something caused either by your computer / internet setup, or what you're typing in to the form.

A few more questions: Is the "#" part of the error message you get? Have you typed anything odd into any of the boxes? Does your editor name consist only of standard letters (in lowercase) and numbers?

The "#" showed as a dot.

There was nothing odd in the boxes. Just the answer to the questions.

The editor name is "buhrly" all lower case.

I managed to provoke the error described... Now to work out why... :) & :(

Another couple of questions:

Did you use the same email address on the application form as you used here? If not, did the local part (the bit before the @ sign) just consist of numbers? (Don't post your email address here; PM it to me if you think there might be something unusual about it.)

Before you got the error did you have any problems with the CAPTCHA image? (ie did you manage to get it correctly on the first attempt, or did the system say you got it wrong and give you a new image to do?)

The email address is the same.

I did not get the CAPTCHA correct on the first attempt on either of the submits if I remember correctly.

Good you were able to see it. Hopefully an easy fix.

Not exactly a fix, but a workaround: It seems that the error can arise if you use an email address which either doesn't start with a letter, or consists of only one character before the @ sign. So if you're able to try with a different email address, you may be able to get it to work. Make sure your address begins with a letter (a-z) and has a local part (the bit before the @ sign) of at least two characters.

Thanks, I will give that a try.
