econroy56 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Hi guys! I've been using the ODP since my college days in 1999 and have loved it since day 1. I noticed a sub catergory that should be added. If there's anyone out there that could pass the word to the powers that be let them know it's be cool to see... Top : Society: Subcultures : Cyberculture : Planking With the growing attention over the past year or so there have been many quality sites popping up. I could give you more then 6 examples but don't want to post outside links in here. If you would like to message me for a list of suggestions please feel free. Thanks for taking the time to look at my thread! econroy56
motsa Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I don't think planking would be considered a part of the cyberculture subculture (or of any other subculture, for that matter), but that's something that would have to be discussed internally. Categories are only created as needed. If you feel there is a need for a planking category, submit the sites you think belong in that category to the parent category of where you think that category should be. If the editor who eventually reviews those sites feels there's a need for a planking subcategory, they'll go through the process to have it created.
econroy56 Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 Thank you for the reply motsa. I figured it would fall under cyberculture. The basis of planking is to find a random/original place, lay down have a photo taken then upload that photo to compete with others all over the world. The game has spread all over the world quickly via sites made for it and social networking. As a member of this forum what other category would you suggest? If planking was to get it's own category I'd love to apply to be the editor.
Meta pvgool Posted July 28, 2011 Meta Posted July 28, 2011 For a category to be created we first would need to have some websites for that subject. If it is a subculture you could suggest website to Top : Society: Subcultures But to be a subculture there needs to be more than just some people laying down and uploading photos or videos. Is it a lifystyle, is a it a game or is it a hype. You could help us by suggesting a number of websites (say 5 to 10, the more the better). This may be done to the Subcultures category. Editors will decide how and where to put these websites together in a category (existing or new). I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
chaos127 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 In addition, if you'd like to help us with the internal discussions about if/where to have a Planking category, maybe you could consider applying to become an editor... You'd have to select an existing category to apply for (not Planking, since that doesn't exist yet), but I'm sure you could find something else that interests you amongst our thousands of categories -- another sport or game for example, or maybe the category for your home town. And once you're an editor, you can contribute to internal discussions, help build new categories, and apply for additional categories to edit. For further details, see http://www.dmoz.org/help/become.html
