felbel Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Request help with editor abuse, please. First note that I submitted this request via the editor abuse form. When I submitted the form, my browser brought up a terse page that said "oops - error" in the title. This is reproducible and occurs with multiple browsers. Here is the request from the president of the organization (I am the webmaster). Thank you, Fred ----- DMOZ January 25, 2012 Re: Editor Abuse - deliberate malicious description for website Oregonir.org I am writing out of concern about a malicious description presented by DMOZ for our organization Oregonians for Immigration Reform. When a DMOZ search is performed on "oregonians for immigration reform", our website oregonir.org is returned in position one. However, the description that is displayed is "Views immigration as an attack on American sovereignty." This has been the case for years. Our website has never viewed immigration as an attack on American sovereignty, and we have never had wording to that effect on our website. We recently completely rebuilt our website, yet the malicious and incorrect description remains. We must point out that Bing returns the site description correctly. Therefore, we can only conclude that DMOZ, for some unspecified reason, has decided to deliberately malign our organization with this description. We demand and insist that this erroneous description be removed immediately and that an appropriate description be taken from our website. We suggest this description from our home page be used "Oregonians for Immigration Reform works to stop illegal immigration as well as reduce legal immigration to a more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable level here in Oregon and across the United States". Cynthia Kendoll President, Oregonians for Immigration Reform P.O. Box 1438 McMinnville Oregon 97128-1438 ----------------
Meta informator Posted January 26, 2012 Meta Posted January 26, 2012 There are some technical problems with the abuse report system so it is OK that you report your issue here. We will investigate the issue to see if deliberate abuse has taken place. Generally there are Guidelines for descriptions that editors should follow. Descriptions should be written by the editor and describe the website and not only reproduce text found on the webpage. Curlie (Dmoz) Meta editor informator
jimnoble Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I've amended the description to a more guidelines compliant one (which your suggested mission statement is not). A decade after the event, we can find no evidence of editorial abuse.
