kzak Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 The following sites are listed twice in the same category because one redirects to the other: CATEGORY: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Windows/Window_Coverings/Blinds/ SITES: Blinds Wholesale http://www.blindswholesale.com/ LA Blinds http://www.lablinds.com/ According to what I have read, this is abuse. But is it abuse when the same company has "sister" sites selling the same products on a site with a different url and design? example: The same owner (Blinds Acquisitions according to the registrar) has a third site in the same category called No Brainer Blinds and Shades (http://www.nobrainerblinds.com/). Is this abuse, or a good way to boost your exposure?
Guest Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Based on what you've said, we would likely want to list just one of those three. Could be abuse or an editor's oversight which let this happen. We'll check ASAP.
Meta hutcheson Posted July 15, 2003 Meta Posted July 15, 2003 Is it useful to the surfer to see the same content on two different listings? NO. Then it's abuse. Thanks for reporting it.
kzak Posted July 23, 2003 Author Posted July 23, 2003 [sarcasm removed - if you don't know the whole situation, don't act like you do]
Editall/Catmv lissa Posted July 24, 2003 Editall/Catmv Posted July 24, 2003 We take the quality of listed sites very seriously. When a problem is brought to our attention (dead urls, changed content, duplicate content) we try to act as soon as the problem can be verified. There isn't a "queue" like the unreviewed submissions. Normally changes in the database show up shortly after they are made on the public side. However, the public side was frozen during the upgrades. New data is now being propagated and should appear on the public side in a few days. Lissa <added> LA Blinds was deleted for being a redirect prior to your inquiry here. It just didn't show on the public side.
kzak Posted July 24, 2003 Author Posted July 24, 2003 [sarcasm removed - if you don't know the whole situation, don't act like you do] My question was genuine. I would rather you say it was a stupid question than remove it based on the assumption I was being sarcastic. lissa - thank you for answering my question.
Guest Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 Your deleted statement/question basically asserted that you KNEW we left junk in the directory and didn't mind doing it. A little reading in the forums would have told you that a lot of changes are not showing on the public side of things right now, including deleting bad sites. Why not assume that we acted on your post and then ask, "When will I see the listings disappear?"
foetusized Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 I took care of this problem, due to a report made using our public abuse report system, several days before you posted here. I think you may have been the one that filed that report. Unfortunately, due to the server upgrades, you were not able to tell that anything had changed -- Foe
