Guest nzabaldo Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 I am currently working on submitting our site to the dmoz, and as I am going through the directories I see a particular competitor who has listed their company in the directory with several different URL's, but they all lead to the same company "WWASP". These are nothing more than doorway pages, which from everthing I've read are illegal and abuse. As I understand it you can get completely banned from the dmoz for doing this. I call foul! This is nothing, but clutter and a clever way of increasing marketing presence, but in any search engine I've read including the dmoz's guidelines this is abuse! The sites are listed in: http://www.dmoz.org/Health/Mental_Health/Child_and_Adolescent/Treatment/Resources/Referral_Services/ I'm telling you these sites are the very same company and the layouts and pictures have just been changed to doop editors. The sites that are the same company are: familyfirstaid.org troubled-teens.com www.teensincrisis.net crosscreek4teens.com crosscreekcenter.ws I have found the same practice by this company in several other directories. How can this be? I thought this was illegal and everyone is limited to one URL for their one company? Please help me understand this.
Alucard Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 Since the editing side of the ODP is down right now, it's not going to be possible to check out the information you are giving us, or to do anything about it. But rest-assured that if what you say is true (and I have no reason to believe it is or isn't) then the offending listings will be removed very promptly. You are right - listing of these sorts of fraternal mirrors is NOT something we do.
totalxsive Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 There are several reasons why this could have happened - perhaps the editor who added them didn't realise the association, or they were added by separate editors, or it was a case of 'bait-and-switch' where the sites were fine when they were reviewed but have since changed in content. If what you say is true, then, of course, we'll delete them. But as has been said, without being able to get into the ODP server we can't do full checks on these sites just yet. But thanks for reporting them, and we will look into them.
Guest Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 We've been dealing with these guys for a while now. Watch for everything to update in a week or so and see if some of this stuff hasn't already been removed.
