mrix Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Hello all, My categories of metal detecting never get updated, there are more and more dead sites with 404 pages and other that have just turned into spam sites? Is there anyone that could update these categories? I did apply for admin some time ago now but got turned down. Would be great if someone could clean up the metal detecting related categories, ever time I check them out they get worst and worst, Thanks all mrix
Meta pvgool Posted February 16, 2013 Meta Posted February 16, 2013 You can help by posting those 404 and spam sites in http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5420 we have some tools to help us find 404 sites but these tools might miss some errors I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
mrix Posted February 16, 2013 Author Posted February 16, 2013 Hello it was the first thing I done many months ago Best regards mrix
Meta pvgool Posted February 16, 2013 Meta Posted February 16, 2013 Those have all been processed a long time ago (july 2012) see post 5084 till 5088 in http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5420&st=5080 as mentioned in that thread Note: The majority of dead links in #5084 (9 out of 12) had already been removed from the live directory some time ago with some over two years ago. Please be sure you are reporting problem links from an actual dmoz.org link rather than an outdated copy somewhere. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
mrix Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 I see, would you be able to tell me if there is an active admin for the metal detecting related subject as I have requested an addition on 3 occasions through a year plus period with no addition. Best regards mrix
jimnoble Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them. Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.
mrix Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 Hello jimnoble, I fully understand and respect what your saying but in this case the admin appears to of give up on keeping this category in shape etc ? What happens if this is actually the case and an admin has just given up and no longer has time for it and has not notified anyone ? Best regards mrix
Meta windharp Posted February 18, 2013 Meta Posted February 18, 2013 No category is assigned to one specific person - On every category, several hundred editors have access. If an editor stops working, that does not change much for the whole project, others can carry on. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
jimnoble Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 To add to the point, if no volunteer editor is interested in editing in a category, it doesn't get edited until some editor is.
mrix Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 To add to the point, if no volunteer editor is interested in editing in a category, it doesn't get edited until some editor is. I see, so if there was not an active editor for any of the metal detecting categories active, would I be right in saying other category admins can take over / update etc ? Thanks mrix
jimnoble Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Yes, but there's a huge difference between can (have permissions to) and will (volunteer to).
mrix Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Ok thanks for the feedback, just have to live in hope I guess. Cheers mrix
jimnoble Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 One last thing. Don't be tempted to suggest your website to yet more categories.
mrix Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 No sure, I have only ever submitted to the one category which I believed to be the relevant correct one. Thanks mrix
jimnoble Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I have only ever submitted to the one category which I believed to be the relevant correct one You must have forgotten that we have computers and know how to use them.
mrix Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 I had mentioned in a prior reply that I has submitted my site at least 3 times within a year period which I thought was acceptable, In all honesty I thought I had submitted my site to the relevant categories but over the year I may of picked the wrong one I cant remember but it was not intentional. Best regards mrix
jimnoble Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 See this old thread where I advised you not to suggest your website further. You did so on Thursday last week - to a different and inappropriate category. Closing this thread. Do not start yet another thread on the same topic.
