Appearing in search but not in the category it says it's in

Hi guys,

 

I've read that the search is a "but buggy" but at the moment I don't know what I have to do to get our site in a category or even find out if the site has been approved.

 

I search for the URL of the site and can find it there (on a page which isn't crawable), which also states that it is in a certain category. However, when clicking into the category, the site isn't listed.

 

How should I proceed? I've seen mods categorically state that you shouldn't submit more than once (which I last did a while back) but I don't know if there has been a mistake and it needs re-looking at.

 

Any help appreciated.

The actual category is definitive. Our rudimentary search can still show listings that have, in fact, been removed.

 

If your site was removed because it's not the sort of site we list, there's no need to re-suggest it.

If your site became unavailable, our robots will have temporarily removed it from the public directory for attention by an editor and such sites show up prominently on our dashboards. If you re-suggest it, that prominence will go.

 

So what should you do? You need do nothing.

Yes, a part of our terms for suggesting sites. Going on suggesting it multiple times may result in being labelled as a spammer.

It's obviously frustrating doing nothing, but such is the power of DMOZ that I certainly wouldn't want to risk our site being pushed back or ignored altogether.

 

I'm sure a lot of people think the system in it's current format is frustrating but is there any way of knowing if our site is going to be reconsidered from where things currently stand? I unfortunately have no way of knowing if the site will be looked at again.

O, but there are many things to do. Just not in relation to getting a listing in DMOZ. But my guess is that you have many things to do that are much more important than waiting on a DMOZ listing. Certainly when you know that such a listing will have no magic effect on your website or the number of visitors it will get.

That is because they want DMOZ to do things they want to be done. Things that DMOZ is not doing, has never done and will never do.

Understand what DMOZ is and there will be no frustration.

Any website will be looked at. It does not even matter if the website is suggested or not. They all wil be looked at.

Is it suggested? If yes than it will be looked at. Which does not mean it will be listed.

If the website is listable is only you can know at this moment.
