rsabath Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 My username is rsabath , but I keep getting "User needs an email address verification before the user can login." message during the editor login. The problem is that I never received the verification e-mail. Can someone kindly assist? Thank you Ray
jimnoble Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I can find no evidence that you've ever been accepted as an editor so I'm not sure why you're trying to log in as one. Quite correctly, our system is preventing you from doing so, though I admit that the message could be clearer. Not a bug but a feature .
rsabath Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 I see. I'm trying to log-in because I thought I was accepted. But if not, then why is it that the system is showing that my username is "taken" when I'm reapplying again as an editor? Maybe an error was made somewhere. It's really a weird thing
jimnoble Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 If you're accepted, you'll get an email saying so. Your user name might be taken if you already have a pending application.
rsabath Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 ^ So you mean I will need to use a new username with my re-application?
jimnoble Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 You already have a current application. Editors are only permitted one account so applying again with a different user name would be a mistake.
rsabath Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 That was what I was thinking. The problem now is my previous reapplication was rejected. If I try to reapply, the message will state that the username is "taken". Is there something that can be done?
Meta pvgool Posted September 1, 2013 Meta Posted September 1, 2013 If you get "user name taken" than there is an open application for that name. You should never have more than one open application at a time. If you provide the requested information we can look at the status of your application. I checked the username you use here. And there is an open application which is certainly the same person as in all previous applications for that name. And a quick look (no review) seems to indicate that you still refuse to make the changes in your application that have been indicated in all previous cases. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
jimnoble Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Did you not read my above post where I said You already have a current application?
rsabath Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Hi Jim, sorry for the confusion. It's just that the very last e-mail I received from noreply@dmoz.org was on 9/5/12. I don't remember if I did reapply after that. Can you kindly check for me the date I submitted my last application?
jimnoble Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 It's just that the very last e-mail I received from noreply@dmoz.org was on 9/5/12 That can't be right because you need to respond to an email confirmation message before an application is visible to us humans and I can see applications dated 2012-06-15 2012-06-15 2012-06-30 2012-07-29 2012-08-21 2012-08-23 2012-09-05 Awaiting evaluation. Is that what you meant by 9/5/12? If so, it's best to use the ISO format for dates because some countries say m/d/y and others say d/m/y.
rsabath Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Yes, exactly! I'm referring to 2012-09-05 date. But I do think something messed up with the system since it is already one year. If you look back in this thread: http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=57281 , I asked you about my reapplication dated 2012-09-05. You then answered that it was declined. How come it is now awaiting evaluation?
jimnoble Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Here's a weird thing. Whilst your current application is nearly a year old, it only became visible to we humans in very recent days. That you started this thread in the same time frame can't be a coincidence because we don't believe in those. Did you by any chance find an old email confirmation message in your records and respond to it within the last few days?
rsabath Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Yes, Jim, good thing you mentioned that...now I know what happened. I did browse to old ODP emails during the time frame of this thread and clicked on the verification link. The reason I did that is because the system is showing that my username is "taken" when I'm reapplying again as an editor. I'm assuming that maybe I was accepted so I tried logging-in as an editor. The message that shows "User needs an email address verification before the user can login." made me click on the verification link of my last ODP verification email. I'm sorry if what I did above messed up the system as the errors that keep appearing are not that clear. Also, I think the system that handles verification email must be set-up so it expires after a certain period of time. Is it possible to delete all my current pending application (those are old) so I can reapply again?
jimnoble Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Yes, Jim, good thing you mentioned that It would haver been helpful if you'd thought to mention it at the outset. Also, I think the system that handles verification email must be set-up so it expires after a certain period of time. They used to self destruct after a month. I'll report this as a bug. I've removed your current (old) application. If you try again, be sure to follow all previous advice and answer the associated websites question completely.
