syntxerr Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Hey All, I applied 4 times under the same username 'syntxerr'... Application 1: URL is a drop ship store, application rejected - the store is actually a stocking store Application 2: Please provide 3 sample URLs (I only did 2 as it says submit 2-3 on the application) Application 3: Invalid capitalization - I cap'd list items which is a programming habbit Application 4: I think correct, no mistakes denied anyways? Any insite is appreciated!
jimnoble Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 [174158, 174180, 174185] Any insite is appreciated! That would be insight! The lesson to learn is that an application process is not a good place to ignore advice and argue.
Meta pvgool Posted September 9, 2013 Meta Posted September 9, 2013 writing a good application is not difficult 1. be honest 2. follow the guidelines for which websites are listable 3. follow the guidelines to write proper titles and descriptions On a rejection a list of common mistakes is always given. One or more of those mistakes are applicable. It is for you to determine which and how to correct them. That is similar to tasks editors will have to do on a daily basis. Sometimes a specific comment is provided in addition to the list of common mistakes. Such comments are to give specific help. Not listening to such specific comments is a stupid thing to do. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
syntxerr Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 Thanks @pvgool! Jim - I couldn't agree more, the more surprising point for me was my fourth application that I really thought was valid had no pointers on it I suppose I'll give it a shot in a few days again but I'll be sure to read the guidelines again first. Thanks for the pointers
jimnoble Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 my fourth application that I really thought was valid had no pointers on it We only have records for three applications. Since a comment that had been made on your first application had been ignored on the next two, I guess the reviewing meta didn't see much point in repeating it.
syntxerr Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Strange, I'll look into it... my biggest concern with the comment from the first one is that it just isnt true. I was told its a drop ship only website, when I've seen the giant warehouse stocked with products in the back. It also shows stock status on items, and says "Our warehouse is located in Markham, just north of Toronto." on the about us page. Being Canadian, I feel this really is a staple supplier and is exactly like other stores listed on the site in the US
Meta pvgool Posted September 17, 2013 Meta Posted September 17, 2013 Ask yourself the question. Do I want to become an editor for the benefit of DMOZ or am I mostly interested in listing a website that I am affiliated with? If the answer is the last then don't bother to apply. If it is the first than listen to the comments given and provide 3 good examples. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
syntxerr Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 Its the benefit of DMOZ, the section I want to apply for has such few postings and its what Im interested in. I dont care if Im never allowed to add that site, just the reason for my application being denied was incorrect.
jimnoble Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Your third application was denied because you persisted in ignoring previous advice and using your own website as an example.
syntxerr Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 I do respect that, however according to the guidelines it doesn't say you cannot use your own site as an example - it says you must make it aware on the application which I did. Anyways, the issue I was told was the site I listed didn't meet criteria (said it was drop ship only) when it did. I was told stores that drop-ship items cannot be added, however all stores listed have a physical store / warehouse.
syntxerr Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 Anyways, got the ultimate answer I was after - which is I used a site I was affiliated with (on the denial email it was just blank). Thanks for the info
Meta pvgool Posted October 13, 2013 Meta Posted October 13, 2013 You don't get it. using 1 website with which you are affiliated as an example is not a reason to deny an example using a website which you are told is not listable as an example is a reason combining those two (using a non listable website with whih you are affiliated) gives us the impression you are only after personal gain, whih is a big no-no for us I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
