matri Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Hi Jim, Belated Happy New Year! Sorry for the headache, my old editor name: matri Looks like I almost have the same problem. Back in 2005/2006 I was an editor, but have not been active ever since. Trying to login here or get myself reinstated as an editor I ran into some trouble with usernames/passwords. The only thing I do remember (unless proven wrong) are my old passwords, plus that I did not change my email address in those years. I would highly appreciate if you could help me out of this mess. Thanks in advance. Kind Regards, Matt
Meta pvgool Posted January 11, 2014 Meta Posted January 11, 2014 Matt, if you still know your editor name and password and still have access to the email address reinstatement is very easy just go to http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/reinstate.html and fill out the form I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
matri Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Matt, if you still know your editor name and password and still have access to the email address reinstatement is very easy just go to http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/reinstate.html and fill out the form well, unfortunately, If you read my email, I already tried that. (I have my username and my email address, nothing works, neither here, or when trying to get reinstated). On top, I did receive an email August 19th 2007 7.04 pm : (I am sure I did not change my password then) Hi, Unfortuately, it has come to our attention that your ODP account has been broken into, due to it having a weak password. It appears that no activity has been carried out with your account, I have therefore reset the password to a random value, which you can request from http://www.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/forgot.cgi Please change your password to a secure choice after logging in. You may find some advice on choosing a password at http://www.dmoz.org/erz/passwords.html Regards, Richard Fuller (Software engineer on the dmoz.org project)
Meta pvgool Posted January 11, 2014 Meta Posted January 11, 2014 on the reinstate form a link is provided to http://www.dmoz.org/public/forgetpass to reset your password it will send an email to your known addres between 2007 and now the software has changed and as a result the webpages have gotten new names I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
matri Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 inserting my username there, tells me an email has been send to my email address, which is not arriving, I never changed my email address, it is the same for more than 10 years now, used it for registering here and it is the same address where I received R. Fuller's notification from above, no idea how to proceed
matri Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 what puzzles me, I also had an account here, which is gone, can't find my old entry in the members list if I remember correct my editor account got approved by motsa and I was also exchanging messages with you
matri Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 meanwhile I found out, for becoming an editor I used a different email address while I was living in Italy, I moved and this email address does not exist anymore, nevertheless...I do have my username AND password, so is there any reasonable way to get this resolved?
RZ Admin Elper Posted January 12, 2014 RZ Admin Posted January 12, 2014 Best way to move forward on this is to send one of the "Dmoz Meta" editors named just above some more info by PM in this forum, such as full name, former email address, category you started in, etc. (but not your password). Once we are sure about your identity, we'll reset your registered email to the current one which will allow the process to complete. elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.
matri Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Elper, thanks for the advice, let's see if I can get this sorted out
jimnoble Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 To avoid confusion, I've split your posts into your own thread and amended your account name here to your claimed editor name. That you've forgotten some of your login details or you no longer have access to your original email account are merely stumbling blocks, not show stoppers. Please contact me via http://www.dmoz.org/public/sendemail?editor=jimnoble (Don't use any other method) with as much corroborative information as you can such as:- Approximate date joined Editor name (but not password) Real Name Original email address Joining category Additional categories gained Roughly how many edits done Approximate date of leaving and the circumstances Convince me that you are who you say you are and I can reset your email address of record to one that works today. This will make it possible for you to request a password reminder and complete a reinstatement request form at http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/reinstate.html.
matri Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Done, if this doesn't help, I can always provide a passport copy
jimnoble Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 It's Sunday evening here and I've been unavailable for most of the day. I got your three emails and I'll process them tomorrow.
matri Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 oops, I forgot! for us here your Sunday is usually Monday, sorry and enjoy your evening
jimnoble Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 email updated and PW reminder sent. I've also merged your original Mat1 account here into the current matri one. Note that this forum's rules prohibit multiple accounts here.
matri Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 thanks Jim, worked like a charm, never had any multiple accounts, have a headache memorizing one single pin code for my bank account
jimnoble Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 never had any multiple accounts By an amazing coincidence, the Mat1 account here had exactly the same email as your initial DMOZ one.
