Umair Adil Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Hi. It is to let you know that i submitted an Editor application approx. 2 months ago and i still haven't got any response to that application. Usually applications get approved or rejected within a week but in my case it has been too late. I believe that the editor of that particular category is either inactive or has completely ignored my application. I want to request the editors or other concerned authorities to kindly track down my application and have it reviewed if possible or at least suggest a way to contact the appropriate person. Thanks. Here's the category to which i applied: Top>Society>Work>Part-time Employment
RZ Admin Elper Posted November 30, 2014 RZ Admin Posted November 30, 2014 Hi Umair, could you add the required information so we can find your application: Forum Guidelines - READ BEFORE POSTING The editors who review the applications are either metas or catmods (volunteer senior editors) and review the applications as and when they can, and not to a predictable schedule. Although review in the first week is possible, many applications take considerably longer. elper {moz}:curlie: All opinions expressed are my own, and do not necessarily represent the official point of view of the administration of either this forum or the directory.

Umair Adil Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 you application is still waiting evaluation the meta editors who evaluate applications are also volunteers and until now none of them has looked at it just wait 189606 It has been 4 months without any update regarding my application. The problem is i cannot submit another application because it says that I can only submit 1 application at a time. It probably means that i won't be able to apply again till my first submission is Open. Could you take notice of this problem because 4 months is a very long time even for Dmoz. Thanks.
Meta pvgool Posted February 22, 2015 Meta Posted February 22, 2015 Was that the reason why you applied with another name and email. one person is not allowed to have more than one editor account you tried to get 2 editor accounts. not a good thing to do I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

I applied with my own name with my other Email address. That's because i wanted to re-apply after not having received any kind of response since 4 months. And the problem was it wasn't letting me apply again with an active application. I am not trying to get 2 editor accounts at all. I just want my application to be considered and responded to. That's why i have been reporting my problem on this forum but it hasn't been solved yet.
Umair Adil Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 And just for the record, my second application is for another similar category. I applied for it in the hope that the editor of this category might not be as lazy (no offense) as the other one.
Meta mollybdenum Posted February 23, 2015 Meta Posted February 23, 2015 New editor applications are processed by a group of volunteer editors. There is no one editor assigned to one area. Generally, editors choose to process applications in a language in which they are fluent, and for categories with which they have some experience. There is no need to apply to more than one category or with another name. The application will be processed at some time, by some editor. I will not answer PM or emails sent to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
Meta pvgool Posted February 23, 2015 Meta Posted February 23, 2015 Not only is there no need to apply for more than one category it is strictly prohibited. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

In that case i am okay if one of my applications is discarded. But the problem still remains that my application has not been processes for a "very" long time. According to your explanation it suggests that majority of the editors do not have experience in the specific category that i applied to, all the more reason to add another editor to the crew so he can take care of that area. Don't you agree?

Don't you agree? No, that is not what is said. There are several types of editors. One type can only do editing (reviewing and listing websites), they can not process new editor applications. One type can process new editor applications (and they can also review and list websites). That last type is called "meta editor". They are also volunteers and will only work as much as they want and where they want. I for instance are such a meta. I could process your application but I do not have enough knowledge about the category you are applying for, that is the reason why I will not process the application. I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

I could process your application but I do not have enough knowledge about the category you are applying for, that is the reason why I will not process the application. Oh so that's how it works. Thanks for clearing it up. So if you cannot process my application then maybe you know someone who can? Or maybe you can find a relevant Meta editor to help me out? I get that you don't have complete knowledge about the category but I do. That's the reason i opted for this category. The second category that I applied to recently suits me more. So i would prefer to edit that category compared to the previous one if I have to choose one. I get that you cannot judge my application one hundred percent right but at least you can check my application for other things such as my profile, my intent and the quality of the links that i have submitted? It would be great if you can help me out here. Thanks.

Meta pvgool Posted March 9, 2015 Meta Posted March 9, 2015 how many time do we have to say NO, there is no way to speed up any of the processes within DMOZ I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.
Umair Adil Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 how many time do we have to say NO, there is no way to speed up any of the processes within DMOZ Yes, i understand that. But you also said that you can process the application. And considering my scenario, it has been 5 months since i applied which usually does not happen. If you are not familiar with the category that i applied to, you can check my application for other things such as the profile descriptions and the links that i have posted. If you think they are up to the standards then you can process it. Am i right?
Umair Adil Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 I really get that DMOZ moderators and editors prefer to stay anonymous but at least they can co-operate and help potential candidates can't they?
Meta mollybdenum Posted March 9, 2015 Meta Posted March 9, 2015 You are asking, in effect, that some editor process your application, over and above all others. This is really not fair to the others who are waiting. Some editor will process your application eventually. I will not answer PM or emails sent to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

Yes you are right but the waiting period for me has been much longer than it usually takes, don't you agree? Anyhow, that point that i am trying to make is that when someone feels that he wants to volunteer for a such a cause and wants to make web a better place based on his experience, I believe he should be given a chance regardless of all the procedures and waiting periods. And i wanted to be a part of Dmoz because it's the only clean and credible community that users can actually rely on when trying to search for good resources. I never thought it would be this hard.
RZ Admin Elper Posted March 11, 2015 RZ Admin Posted March 11, 2015 We tend to prioritize new applications, but as in anything, sometimes things don't go as fast as we'd like...
