What is very important? SEO, Web Directories or suggesting sites to them?

The volunteer editors created and maintained the Dmoz directory as a resource for humans, not as a way of influencing search engines.

Answer to the two last posts: Dmoz.org was just another link among others and ranking (by Google) was not a big feature in their algorithm I suppose.

Elper is right - dmoz was not intended to be a tool for site promotion.

Google seems to have evolved beyond the point of scraping directories for URLs...

Dmoz, and its successor Curlie are designed above all as a resource for humans, not machines - although we are always interested in new ways of making use of and improving the data we produce.

Well, Nobody can do directory submission in today's era. Coz Demoz is best for human knowledge about business and product but Google has down the Demoz now. You can do another SEO task like local listings, Profile sharing, Web2.0. you just need to take care about the content coz "content is king" right now.
