Guest csilk Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Hello....this is a great forum! Thanks! ok, for the longest time my IP address 208.3.70.30 has been listed in the Directory pointing to http://ncfga.org. This is incorrect. It should point to www.coreysilk.com. The listing for Corey Silk is there but in the wrong category...yikes! It should be in a alternative sexual lifestyle (bisexual) category. I can't ever seem to get this fixed. Whats up? Thanks again!
dfy Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I've just removed ncfga.org, since the domain has expired. Yes, I know that it still shows on the public side, but when the public pages get updated you'll be able to see that it isn't there any more. I don't know where you think that coreysilk.com should be listed, but right now I get nothing but an ASP 0146 error, "New Session Failed". If you tell us where you submitted it, we can check the queue to see if it is still there.
motsa Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Also, we have nothing to do with the fact that your server's IP address has been associated with http://ncfga.org -- that's something you would need to take up with OpenSRS, I'd say, since they're the ones handling that domain. We just list domains; we don't control where they point.
Guest csilk Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Thank you again...you folks are amazing! The website www.coreysilk.com (of all times) is down due to construction on the building that houses it! It will be up Tuesday 9:00am EST. As far as a category the following would work: http://www.dmoz.org/Society/Gay,_Lesbian,_and_Bisexual/Bisexual/ Your quick replies are tremendous!!! Corey
Guest csilk Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I agree that ODP has nothing to do with the IP address, but for some reason that URL(http://ncfga.org) got associated with the site for www.coreysilk.com. The Listing showed: Corey Silk Home...blah...blah..blah but the corresponding link to the site was the ncfga.org url. I don't have a clue! Thanks for your input!
motsa Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 >>The Listing showed: Corey Silk Home...blah...blah..blah but the corresponding link to the site was the ncfga.org url. I don't have a clue! Perhaps at Google or some other user of the ODP's data but not at the ODP itself. I presume that's because of whatever happened with OpenSRS.
Guest csilk Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 So my last question is how will Google and the others know to remove the incorrect listing. Looking today they have both the listing you corrected and the old one. Any thoughts? Oh and where can I send you folks some Starbucks gift certificates? Really!!!
Meta tuisp Posted July 29, 2003 Meta Posted July 29, 2003 how will Google and the others know to remove the incorrect listing They don't need to know: next time they update by picking up the latest version of the RDF file, their whole directory will be replaced. But again, there's no way any ODP editor can forecast when they update
Guest csilk Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Ok....that makes sense! So how about a post office box so I can mail some "thank you gifts"?
brmehlman Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 Thanks for the thought, but definitely and emphatically no thanks on the thank you gifts. Knowing that we're building the best directory on the web is all the thanks we need, want or ask.
dfy Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 I don't fancy the 300 mile round trip to the nearest Starbucks, but I appreciate the thanks.
