Guest Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 I some time ago submitted site (http://www.micro-sys.dk) to: Computers/Software/Shareware/Windows I once had another thread about in which category to submit: http://www.resource-zone.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=submissions&Number=4214&page=&view=&sb=&o= Just wanted to check up on it (e.g. if there were any problems with cateogry, which there should not be AFAIK + IMHO, etc.). best regards Thomas Schulz
djdeeds Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 Hi - It's listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Denmark/Business_and_Economy/Computers/ -dj, ODP editor
Guest Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 Sure, but only because it never got accepted (because of backlog, too generic category, etc. reasons) anywhere else. I originally submitted to another category (long story, all written in the thread link I gave). There are many websites that are listed in 2 categories (e.g. regional and international). For instance.. How many looking for international orientated shareware would look under: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Denmark/Business_and_Economy/Computers/ ? I mean.. Denmark for normal English texted shareware? Infact, if you search "http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=micro-sys" you will see there is a site (unrelated business and country) that is listed in 3 categories (and rightfully so I guess). best regards Thomas Schulz
Guest kujanomiko Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 The category you are in has no merit on most ODP data users, i.e. search engines. Very few hits are from the ODP itself, and very few people actually use the category heirarchy to find sites.
Guest Posted July 16, 2002 Posted July 16, 2002 >The category you are in has no merit on most ODP data >users, i.e. search engines. I guess so. It is true the Google PageRank is the same. Still.. Search engine optimization is not the only reason. >Very few hits are from the ODP itself, and very few people >actually use the category heirarchy to find sites. But isn't that the purpose of ODP (to serve as a human directory)? And with reference to that I personally can not see why site in question should not be listed there (but so be it I guess). best regards Thomas Schulz
