motsa Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 While the server upgrades are being completed, meta editors do not have access to the new application queue and thus can't check on the status of any applications. A note will be posted when everything is back to normal. Thank you for your continued patience.
donaldb Posted August 7, 2003 Posted August 7, 2003 Update on New Editor Applications We still do not have access to the new editor application system to check application status, but the system is working again on the public side. People who submitted an application, and who had problems replying to the confirmation e-mail should be receiving a follow-up e-mail to reply again to the confirmation e-mail.
Guest openukraione Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 Re: Update on New Editor Applications When will you send repeated e-mails for approve and should I fill new form, or just repeat my inquiry?
donaldb Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 Re: Update on New Editor Applications Did you try to reply to the original confirmation e-mail again? Try to resend your confirmation e-mail to apply@dmoz.org.
Guest dcogden Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 Re: Update on New Editor Applications Now that my reply email (for application confirmation) has indeed gone through, I'm curious as to how long I should expect before my application is reviewed. When you say that you don't have visibility to new applications, does this mean that the review process is halted?...or just that you can't check the status of the review process for specific applicants? Thanks! -David

AllyCat Posted August 8, 2003 Posted August 8, 2003 Re: Update on New Editor Applications Thanks for the info. I just submitted my application, so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for notification that applications are being processed again. I hope you don't get too swamped!
donaldb Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 We once again have access to the new editor applications. There are a lot of applications in the pipeline that need to be reviewed, so don't all stampede us at once for a status of your application
Guest Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 It appears that, for the moment, we CAN process the apps but the line is VERY long. My guess is that we got roughly 100 per day while the bugs were being worked out. I've handled a few today, and I know that others have as well, but this could take a while to get down to close to 0 pending apps, esp if 100 per day continue to come in. Note that the application queue is not a FIFO pipeline, and applications may be reviewed in any order.
Guest dcogden Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 I don't know if this forum is the proper venue for this question, so please let me know if I should direct this elsewhere. I just received an email declining my application to become an editor. No specific explanation was given. How do I go about getting specific feedback, in order to see if I should re-apply with an improved application...or if there is some other reason beyond my control? Thanks! -David C. Ogden
totalxsive Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 It would be impossible to give specific feedback because editor applications are not archived. However, if you were to start a new thread, listing the category you applied and the URLs and descriptions you suggested, we may be able to help you write a better one. Of course, the meta editors make the final decision - I can't guarantee that an application that we've helped you perfect will be successful. But we're always on the lookout for new editors so it can't hurt to give it a second try, and it might help others in a similar position . You may also like to read the various other resources available to you through this forum, including, most importantly, the editing guidelines, which have plenty of hints for selecting sites and writing descriptions and titles.

Meta tuisp Posted August 10, 2003 Meta Posted August 10, 2003 Seems a massive effort has gone into processing the new applications ASAP. You shouldn't have to wait too long
Guest musicfrisk Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 I received a login saying I was approved. However, the login and password do not function. What do I do?
donaldb Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 I'm assumming that you resolved this since it looks like you did a bunch of edits today.
Guest Posted August 11, 2003 Posted August 11, 2003 My best guess is that at first you didn't know you misspelled your own login. I bet you wanted dsquared but somehow managed to get that a bit wrong You figured it out, though.
