Status of http://www.pherone.com submission

Hello,

I am not certain that my submission for http://www.pherone.com actually worked, because the submission form pages have consistently timed out when I've tried to submit.

I attempted to submit to this category: http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Fragrances/Cologne/

and may also have tried to submit to this category:

http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Fragrances/

I'm not sure if either of them were successfully submitted.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for checking.

Do you have any suggestions on how to get the submission to work? I have tried it multiple times over the last few weeks and it times out every time.

I have tried with Internet Explorer 6 and Mozilla 1.4. My internet connection is a DSL.

Is there any alternative way to submit, or is this a problem that's known and being addressed, or what do you recommend?

Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply.

I notice that in the thread listed it says that the system is overloaded. I wonder if Google or Lycos or one of the other commercial entities who uses DMOZ data could be asked to contribute more compute power and network bandwidth (as a voluntary donation).

It seems that many companies get great benefit from DMOZ and would get even more benefit if the system worked better, so perhaps they would be willing to make contributions which would help make it run better.

We just splitted the system on many new servers, that is not the problem.

But as usual in the computer business, such changes need a lot of time till everything works fine, the software is adapted, you tried some concept how to use your new power and so on. I am sure that, after the initial problems have been solved, all will become better.

Thanks for the reply.

Is that category actively edited? Is my site behind 500 others? What do you think is the likely time until it gets reviewed?

Sorry for all the questions. I just want to get some idea of what to expect.

Thanks again!

There are more than two hundred sites waiting for review, so it might in fact take some time.

By the way, have you seen the specialised Pheromones category? Shopping: Health: Reproduction and Sexuality: Aphrodisiacs: Pheromones

Hello,

I took your advice and posted in that category a month or so ago.

Any word on where www.pherone.com stands now and on the prospects for getting listed soon in any category?

Thanks!

Your site is still awaiting review. Good news is that it looks like someone broke loose on the unreviewed queue in that category as it has become one third of what it was.

Thanks for checking.

Which category was that? Is it waiting in both categories or only the latter?

Could you give me an idea of how many are in the queue before us?

Thanks again!

I only checked Shopping: Health: Reproduction and Sexuality: Aphrodisiacs: Pheromones - You will not be listed in both catgories. Shopping sites only get listed once in Shopping. When you ask for a status request in the future make sure your most recent post has clickable links to any category that you want checked. Thanks - just makes it easier.

Thanks.

What's the length of the queue in that category? Any guesstimate as to how long it might be before the listing is considered?

Thanks again

I am sorry but we no longer give information on the size of a particular unreviewed pool. We also have no way of knowing how long it will take to review a site due to the volunteer nature of the directory. Basically, in this forum, you can ask if a site is waiting and we can answer yes or no. If it is listed we can tell you that and if it is rejected we can tell you that as well. If it was rejected we might even give you a link to the submission guidelines so you can try to figure out why.

Thanks for the clarification.

One other thing though: with regard to the regional listing, the description of the category doesn't state that you need a real storefront. It says:

This category is for sites pertaining to businesses, services, and industry located in Wilson, North Carolina.

There are least a few other "virtual" companies in the category already:

Anthony Web Design - Offers web design and hosting services. Features client portfolio and owner profile.

Web Design Associates - Offers web design, hosting, and database integration. Features client portfolio and list of site promotion techniques.

So I wonder why my site was deleted from that category, based on the above.

Thanks again.

It was not deleted from the category because I don't think it was ever listed there rather we declined to list it regionally because the editor who reviewed the site did not feel that it qualified for a regional listing.

Sometimes sites that have been listed in the past need to be re-reviewed to see if they match the current listing guidelines. It is possible that we need to do that in this area of the directory and that task will be accomplished as soon as a volunteer editor has time to do it.

Thanks for the inquiry and good luck with your submission.
