Thank you for your assistance, pnm.

Since this URL submission relates to management consulting, I'm considering submitting a deep link for another part of the site that provides an extensive amount of free construction and real estate data ( http://www.steeleanalytics.com/construction.htm ). However, I want to make sure that I don't violate the ODP's spamming guidelines.

If I submit the deep link to http://dmoz.org/Business/Real_Estate/Residential/Marketing_and_Advertising/ , should I advise the editors of both categories about the existence of the other URL submission?

Thanks for you help.

While one additional posting won't violate our spamming guidelines, I'd rather turn you in another direction. Submit instead to the /Business_and_Economy subcat of the locality where you are based. Most companies qualify for regional listings in addition to topical ones.

With regards to your idea for a deeplink, I haven't looked at your site, but in my editing experience, submitter ideas as to what is a valid deep link and editor ideas on the same subject are usually quite different. If you do submit as a possible deeplink after your main site has been listed, make sure that it deals with a totally different subject area. We often use the example of three different fruits. To the submitter they are different, but to us they are all fruits. As a consultant, you provide advice. I'd struggle with deeplinking a consultant's site (any consultant's site) based on the advice it offers. An exception might be if the advice were truly unique and no one else seemed to offer similar advice. I think it would be a steep hill to climb, but you are free to try (once!).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice, spectregunner. I will certainly consider submitting to the appropriate local category.

I agree with your point that submitters' ideas about deep links are often not congruent with the ideas of editors.

In this particular case, I think a cogent argument could be made to the editors of the relevant categories that a deep link is warranted. The original submission was for management consulting services (business analysis, data mining, forecasting, revenue management, etc.) applicable to many industries. The deep-link page, in contrast, provides access to free data, charts, and forecasts based on -- and linked to -- official U.S. government and industry trade association data relating specifically to construction and real estate. I do not dispense any advice on this page.

Much of this information can certainly be found elsewhere on the Web, although not always in a user-friendly format. The value of the deep-link page, "U.S. Construction and Real Estate Market Pulse," is that it aggregates data and forecasts from many public and private sources free of charge. A number of visitors, including analysts from the federal government, have told me that they find the page to be useful.

I don't want to be like Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the hill repeatedly, but I'll give it one shot (after my main URL has been listed) and see what happens. As you said, I am free to try (once)! :)

Thanks again for your insights.

[faq=odp#faq_no_editor]There's no editor for my category - will my submission ever get reviewed?[/faq]

There are a couple of editors in [cat]Business/Management[/cat], and all the editors listed in [cat]Business[/cat], cateditalls in Business, editalls, and metas can all edit in your category.
