Guest webceo Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Hi,I submitted my application for DMOZ editor last week and have not heard anything.too editor name:Einargogo Category applied for:http://www.dmoz.com/Business/Electronics_and_Electrical/Batteries Would anyone help me? Thanks for your attention!
totalxsive Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 While I cannot see applications (so I cannot tell you your status), I fear that it is unlikely we would accept an editor into such a large category like that one. Normally brand new editors are only accepted for categories with 100 listed sites or less - that has 280 sites. You may wish to consider re-applying for one of the subcategories. Should you be accepted, you can then work your way up to the category above. Bear in mind that you cannot have two applications in the system at the same time, so it will be best to wait until a more senior editor has given you your status. I hope this is useful for you.
donaldb Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Was it actually the subcategory for Battery_Packs? That would be an ok size of category. I think that your application was denied. One tip about those categories. Make sure that you are not confusing it with the Shopping category when you select sites as examples for your application. Make sure that you read the description for the parent category. This is for manufacturers of, not retailers of, battery packs.
Guest webceo Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Thanks all for reply. In fact,I app two categories editor use different name.first editor name:einar098 for batteries next editor name:einargogo for battery packs . Would you tell me how I can become a formal DMOZ editor? Some feedback would be appreciated.
donaldb Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 The best thing that you can do is read everything in the FAQ and General Advice thread. Personally I would also think seriously about why I wanted to be an editor. If you just want to be an editor to get your own site listed and don't really care about the rest of the project then don't do it. If you want to be an editor because you really believe in the project and want to help, then find a category where you think you can make a difference. Don't just pick something because it is related to your business. Find something that really interests you. Motorcycle racing, doll collecting, computer software - find a category that you know that you can add to it to make it better. People are always complaining here because they spent a whole 30 minutes of their life looking for web sites to use for examples. 30 minutes is nothing! If you are really, truly interested, then you should be able to find at least a dozen new web sites before you even start writing the application. If you are really interested then you are going to put in the time up front to make the best impression possible. Think of the application as your job interview. If you have a good interview, you will get the job
