Guest Posted August 22, 2002 Posted August 22, 2002 Hi all- My submission was accepted on August 12th (phew!). I still don't show up in a search, yet I noticed odp did an update on August 14th. How long before I officially show up in the directory? Thanks in advance! Dave
totalxsive Posted August 22, 2002 Posted August 22, 2002 The mechanism that updates the search facility hasn't been too well lately - it thinks it has updated when actually it hasn't. All should be fine soon, don't worry.
beebware Posted August 22, 2002 Posted August 22, 2002 If I remember correctly, the date on the ODP search results is the 'database change' date - the search database takes a while (last I heard was 3 days) to 'compile'. Therefore only sites in ODP listed 3 days before the 'search database' date will show up. Saying that, I've heard rumours that the search system is now tied into the RDF system (see http://dmoz.org/rdf.html for details), and therefore is only updated correctly when the RDF system produces a 'correct data dump'. Unfortently, it's been a little bit, shall we say, 'ill' recently and has been functioning 100% correctly. Staff @ ODP are aware of the problem and are working at it, so hopefully normality will be resumed shortly. In the meantime, I'll just turn into a penguin.
Guest alnilam Posted August 28, 2002 Posted August 28, 2002 It depends on where you're searching. If you are using a search engine that used ODP data, you might have to wait anywhere from one week to several years, depending on when they update their copy of the ODP's RDF dump. If you are using the ODP searcher, it's a bit buggy. Try going in and finding it in the categories.
abeen Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 You got to be lucky if your site gets listed in dmoz I am actually frustoo about dmoz. I submitted my site 4 months ago and still it does not show up. If dmoz had not been backing up dmoz, dmoz would have no where in the www. Dmoz is taking time for listing site,,, <url removed>
