Guest Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Hi There, I want to thank you for the oppurtunity to post a message here. I have been trying to get a second listing for our site in http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Outdoors/Snowmobiling/Touring/. I realize that there is no editor for that catagory, but there is an editor for the general snowmobiling catagory. I have been tempted to email him directly, but wanting to follow the rules, my better judgement has told be to keep trying and be patient. BTW- I did apply to be an editor a while back, but was rejected. We have updated our snowmobile rental pages and have added 2 new pages about snowmobiling on the site along with some informative and useful outgoing links. We also plan on submitting the rentals page for a listing in Yahoo. A listing in the ODP would be very much appreciated. At the end of September it will be almost a year since our orginal request. I believe that I have been very patient and would simply appreciate any assistance in getting a listing for snowmobiling or any information or suggestions on what I should do next. Thank you again for your time and consideration. Meta hutcheson Posted August 31, 2002 Meta Posted August 31, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent I don't believe your site is appropriate for that category. (But I can see why you thought so; there are some other sites listed that IMO should be elsewhere.)
Guest Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent Can you offer any suggestions on what catagory you would suggest? Thanks, HD
Meta hutcheson Posted August 31, 2002 Meta Posted August 31, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent This is a "If B. U. R. D. doesn't spell 'bird', what does it spell?" kind of question. (Why must it spell anything?) Note that deeplinks are the "exception", not the rule. In this case, this page of the site is obviously of Regional rather than global interest, as is the main page. Is there any reason that you thought the listing for the main site didn't adequately represent this part of the content?
Guest Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent I would sudgest suggest Top: Recreation: Outdoors: Guides and Outfitters: North America: United States: Maine
Guest Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent i would just submit http://www.mooseheadcabins.com
Guest Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent never mind (im an idiot your already listed )
Guest Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent I believe that someone looking for recreational snowmobiling would not be inclined to search for us under lodging/vacation rentals and that a second listing would be appropriate. There are 4 pages of content on recreational snowmobiling that I believe support a second listing. Can anyone tell me the status of the orginal submittal for our page http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rentals.html for a listng under http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Outdoors/Snowmobiling/ If a second listing is denied under this catagory, we hope that consideration for a listing under http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Maine/Recreation_and_Sports/Snowmobiles/ would be given. Do we need to submit a separte request for this listing? I really do appreciate everyones comments. Thanks and have a great Labor Day. HD
Guest Posted September 3, 2002 Posted September 3, 2002 Re: http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/snowmobile_rent Your main site http://www.mooseheadcabins.com/ is properly listed in Regional/North_America/United_States/Maine/Localities/G/Greenville/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/. A single page offering "Maine Snowmobile Rentals and Snowmobile Vacations on Moosehead Lake" is not likely to be deeplinked anywhere else in the directory. As hutcheson said, deeplinks are the exception, not the rule. >> I believe that someone looking for recreational snowmobiling would not be inclined to search for us under lodging/vacation rentals and that a second listing would be appropriate. Your site is clearly devoted to promote vacation rentals at Moosehead Lake. Someone looking for recreational snowmobiling at Moosehead Lake in this directory will find your site and this page, which is obviously of local rather than global, or even Regional (state) interest. That is, you offer snowmobile rentals based in Greenville, Moosehead Lake area, Maine. >> Do we need to submit a separte request for this listing? Please don't. As we said, this page is not likely to be deeplinked. I also see you have this page on the site offering boat rentals on Moosehead Lake: this doesn't mean you are eligible for a deeplink in Regional/North_America/United_States/Maine/Recreation_and_Sports/Sailing/ For the same reason, a site like yours building up different single subpages, targeting Maine photographers, providing weather information in Maine, and a full description of the local restaurant facility, will not have these pages deeplinked in Regional/North_America/United_States/Maine/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/, Regional/North_America/United_States/Maine/Weather/, and Regional/North_America/United_States/Maine/Business_and_Economy/Restaurants_and_Bars/.
