Peter Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 Dear editors, About 3 months ago I have submitted my web site www.seo-works.com to dmoz. It has been quite a while and I can not quite remember which category exactly I submitted to. I think it was: Top: Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Promotion: Search Engine Optimization Firms Is it possible to get an update on the status of my submission? I would appreciate it very much. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, Peter
thehelper Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 Your submission is currently awaiting review in http://editors.dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/Search_Engine_Optimization_Firms/S/ along with under 100 other site suggestions.
Peter Posted November 16, 2003 Author Posted November 16, 2003 TheHelper, Thank you for your quick reply. Would you have any idea how much time I can expect it to take before the site is reviewed? Thanks, Peter
thehelper Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 There is absolutely no way to guess how long it will take. It could be tomorrow. It could be next year. It could take 2 years. Every editor except for 1 paid staff member is a volunteer. You cannot estimate how long it will take a volunteer to review a site submission. Sorry.
Peter Posted November 16, 2003 Author Posted November 16, 2003 No need to say sorry,.. I know what kind of inmense job this is. Just 1 paid editor??? They should give all very active editors some kind of incentive... I think they deserve it. I´ll check back in January,. Thanks, Peter
totalxsive Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 Actually we have a number of paid staff members but only 2 are involved in the day-to-day running of the directory - one handles the technical side and the other concentrates on ontology. However, our techie is on a much-needed vacation at the moment.
Peter Posted January 9, 2004 Author Posted January 9, 2004 Everyone a very happy new year!!! All the best for 2004. Can anyone tell me something about my submission? Is it moving up the line already? Thanks, Peter (www.seo-works.com)
Meta windharp Posted January 9, 2004 Meta Posted January 9, 2004 There is no "line", editors choose freely which submissions to process first. Your site is still waiting. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
Peter Posted January 28, 2004 Author Posted January 28, 2004 No line? So a website could be sitting there waiting for ever. Is my website not interesting enough to the editors? I don't understand. I have a pagerank of 6, many people find my website worth linking to. Why is dmoz not interested? I don't want a special service just for my site, but I don't want my site to be ignored either. Please somebody take a look at my site and place it? Thank you so much in advance. Peter (www.seo-works.com)
bobrat Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 Sorry, but posting here can not be used to influence the order in which sites are reviewed. Editors work according to their own schedules and priorites. And page rank has nothing to do with getting listed in ODP, since an editor is very unlikely to bother looking at the page rank of a site, and even less likely to consider it.
Peter Posted January 29, 2004 Author Posted January 29, 2004 Bobrat, Thank you for your reply. I did not mean to influence the editors. I am just very proud of my web site and am looking very much forward to be included in the biggest and most important directory in the internet. I know pagerank has no influence, I just wanted to say something nice about my website. Thank you for replying. I do know how much work the editors do and am impressed by it. If I would be allowed I would work as an editor myself, but I assume that with my line of work (SEO) I am not allowed to be an editor, so I never even tried to become an editor. Thank you all for the great work you do. Regards, Peter Faber
bobrat Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Sorry, maybe I sounded too negative, and I wasn't trying to put your site down, just clarify how things work. And a person who is an SEO could be an editor, as long as he can clearly switch hats between the conflicting demands of two jobs that are to some extent at conflict with each other. I do some SEO work myself, but it's a minor part of my business.
