Guest SeatingGuy Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Hello, I was recently told about marketing our site in dmoz.org. When I did a search, I found that we are listed in Regional: North America: United States: Georgia: Localities: M: Marietta: Business and Economy: Shopping: Furniture (I am not sure how we got there ??) However, I believe we would be better suited in a main category such as http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Furniture/Seating/ The only problem we have is that our company is geared toward commercial sales, not neccesarily Home_and_Garden. Is there a Commercial Category or Restaurant Category in Shopping? If so, I am sorry that we could not find it. IF there is not, how do we suggest one? We really want to be sure we are listed in the correct category, and not considered a spammer. Any help before we suggest our site, would be great.
motsa Posted December 16, 2003 Posted December 16, 2003 Perhaps http://dmoz.org/Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Home_and_Garden/Furniture/ or since most of your products are restaurant related, how about http://dmoz.org/Business/Hospitality/Food_Service/Tools_and_Equipment/Furniture/ ?
Meta hutcheson Posted December 16, 2003 Meta Posted December 16, 2003 Yes, Business-to-business retailers can be considered for a review somewhere under Business (not Shopping), whether or not they already have a listing under Regional. Pick the category you think most closely fits the "preponderance" of your business, submit, and check back (bump this thread) in a month.
Guest SeatingGuy Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Thanks for the input. I followed your advice and submitted www.millenniumseating.com to http://dmoz.org/Business/Hospitality/Food_Service/Tools_and_Equipment/Furniture/ Can you verify that it is waiting for review?
John_Caius Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 You should have reached a 'confirmation of successful submission' screen.
Guest Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 You should have reached a 'confirmation of successful submission' screen. That's not fair. There have been glitches where that screen never comes up.
Guest SeatingGuy Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 Per hutcheson's advice: Pick the category you think most closely fits the "preponderance" of your business, submit, and check back (bump this thread) in a month ... so that is what I've done. I would have used the other forum for submission status, but hutcheson asked otherwise. If this isn't true any longer, should I restate the question in the other forum?
Meta hutcheson Posted January 17, 2004 Meta Posted January 17, 2004 Looks like this thread has changed its mission. I'll move it to the site status forum.
Guest SeatingGuy Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 www.MillenniumSeating.com After a few months now, would it be possible to have an update? http://dmoz.org/Business/Hospitality/Food_Service/Tools_and_Equipment/Furniture/ http://www.MillenniumSeating.com
Alucard Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 Certainly it's possible. No change on the status - the site still awaits editorial review. Thanks
SeatingGuy Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 www.MillenniumSeating.com Now that the six month waiting period has expired, what is the status of http://www.MillenniumSeating.com in http://dmoz.org/Business/Hospitality/Food_Service/Tools_and_Equipment/Furniture/ Thanks in advance.
SeatingGuy Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 MillenniumSeating.com Now that the six month waiting period has expired (again), what is the status of http://www.MillenniumSeating.com in http://dmoz.org/Business/Hospitality/Food_Service/Tools_and_Equipment/Furniture/ Thanks.
SeatingGuy Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 MillenniumSeating So it is possible for sites to go unreviewed for well over a year in a category. Based on editor insight, should we give up or try again in another six months?
Editall/Catmv arubin Posted April 25, 2005 Editall/Catmv Posted April 25, 2005 There are some sites waiting in some of my categories which were suggested in 2000. (The ones I've noticed would almost certainly be deleted if I looked closely at them. I rarely sort by date, though.) But who knows. One of the many editors who can edit in http://dmoz.org/Business/Hospitality/Food_Service/Tools_and_Equipment/Furniture/ may choose to clean it up at any time.
Meta hutcheson Posted April 26, 2005 Meta Posted April 26, 2005 You can ask again in six months, if you wish. It won't make the review happen faster, or slower. Give up? You've done what you could (suggested the site twice); you've ascertained that what you did had the intended effect (that is, you've made sure the editor who eventually works on that category won't completely overlook the site. That's all that you can do. Now pretend the ODP doesn't exist. What would you do to promote your site? .... Well, then, go do it.
