"Portraits from Photos/Pets" listing (9months)

Hello,

I am not an editor, but I thought I would share a bit of info I learned the hard way myself. It does not help to re-submit your site, it in-fact may hurt.

When you re-submit a site, it deletes the old submission waiting in the pool and creates a new one. If the editor goes thru the pool of sites in order of submission, you hurt your standings by re-submitting by pushing yourself further down the line.

Sorry to jump in on your post, I just thought this info might be helpful to you.

You are next eligible for a status check on 10/21/04. For information regarding this changed policy, please see here.

As the amount of time you've waited seems to be a concern, the FAQ may be of additional assistance. :)

>I was told I was eligible for a status check 10/21/04, but I am still not on dmoz???

Yes, that statement is correct.

>Is something wrong with my site or what?

We don't know.

>What can I do to get an answer as to why it is rejected for 2 years?

Well, that falls under the category of imponderables. An effect that never occurred by definition cannot have a cause.

The site's current state is "waiting review". It has never been rejected. AFTER it's reviewed, it might be accepted or rejected, and at that point the editor should know why that choice was made.

Another point that seems to cause a lot of confusion (not just with you): in the ODP there are no schedules, deadlines, priorities, assignments, or any other of the trappings of micromanagement imposed on the editors -- not by other editors, not by ODP sponsors, not by the public. So don't confuse that with the six-month time mentioned here, which is (1) not a maximum, but a minimum; (2) has nothing to do with the ODP editing, but only with forum communications, (3) is a restriction on submitter/questioners, not editors.

Previously I suggested you read the FAQ: and it might be worth taking a look at again.

I can tell that the time issue is major to some submittors, but the truth of the matter is that our "customer" is the end user. Volunteers work for free, listings are free, and humans review each site separately to ensure quality for that "customer". If webmasters want to suggest sites, that is great--but that is not the only place we get suggestions, editors are also encouraged to seek quality sites on their own.

Suggestions submitted to Shopping are also special. There is an incredible amount of spam in many categories, so getting to the quality sites takes even more time. It's just the nature of the beast. If it seems like it is taking too long, please keep in mind this is a free service. If you are pressed by time, perhaps it would be a good idea to pursue alternate avenues of promotion. :2cents:
