opey Posted January 12, 2004 Author Posted January 12, 2004 Re: Submission help please oops! :o Site - http://www.prosmarketing.com Submission area - http://dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Storage/Optical/Duplication_Services/P/ Now that I've fixed my post...can I get an update? Thank you.
thehelper Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Re: Submission help please The submission is pending review.
opey Posted January 12, 2004 Author Posted January 12, 2004 Re: Submission help please Is there any more information you can give me...I more a less just want to know if there is anything else I can do to get listed or do I have to wait for a few more years? This does seem like a really long time. I almost feel as if it's being left out intentionally...some sites get up in months. Is it possible that it is intentionally being left out...have I done something wrong? I'm clueless and confused some direction please.
thehelper Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Re: Submission help please Due to the voluntary nature of the directory it is impossible to estimate how long it is going to take for a review. It could be between a few minutes and a few years. The only thing you can do is just wait.
opey Posted January 13, 2004 Author Posted January 13, 2004 Re: Submission help please This is unbelievable ...I have waited years and some people in the same industry get in the directory in weeks. There should be a FIFO system set up after a certain amount of time. If the Internet is to be fair and equal, we should all get in and have an oppertunity to get our message accross. This system in it's intention seems almost ingenius...but when a site can get indexed for years...this is an unacceptable scenario and it would seems that someone is playing GOD with who get's in and who doesn't. :(It's a shame that all I can do is beg for pitty from some person that I will never speak to or communicate with. SO I'M BEGGING...If someone does get a chance to look at my site, I would really appreciate it...I do understand this won't change how fast www.prosmarketing.com gets indexed...but I have to ask.
bobrat Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Re: Submission help please Please don't beg, it won't help. The editors who answer questions here are generally unlikely to be the ones that will edit your site, so it's pointless. If it's unacceptable - so what should we do - fire the editors - fine them a days pay. The kind of people who end up donating thousands of hours of their time to work on the directory are not likely to continue to do that if they have to work under some kind of pressure. Anyway - who decided it was unacceptable?
Meta hutcheson Posted January 13, 2004 Meta Posted January 13, 2004 Re: Submission help please Every editor decides what sites get reviewed, and which of them get listed, and where. That's how an edited directory works. What you want is a FFA links farm. There are many of them available, and you are welcome to seek their services.
opey Posted January 14, 2004 Author Posted January 14, 2004 Re: Submission help please You are right. It is pointless for me to beg, I wanted to vent my frustration in the hopes that someone might read and understand. I am a small business owner, and I can only try and promote myself in so many ways. I was hoping that the ODP would help me bring my site on to an equal playing field with my competators. (it's like saying you can only offer coke...not pepsi). I'm dissapointed...but I guess that's too bad. NP Is it unacceptable? Yes I think it is, even if it is volunteer based there should be some way of managing the requests in a somewhat timely manner...or if they can't get to you at least have an automated response telling you that you are in cue...mabey even a numerical indication of how far off you are(and I'm sure many others are in the same boat). I'm not writting this to attack the editor's, I just think that the ODP has a lot of weight in the overall search rankings and I just want to get listed...just like everyone else.
bobrat Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 Re: Submission help please If you take some time and read the other posts in here, maybe you will get an idea that the questions you asked are repeated over and over again. And the answer is always the same, there is no queue, there is no position in line. And I also am a small business owner with several businesses, and when I became an editor I had a site waiting to be listed in a category I did not edit, and I waited like everyone else. And also had no idea when the site would be added.
Meta pvgool Posted January 14, 2004 Meta Posted January 14, 2004 Re: Submission help please I was hoping that the ODP would help me bring my site on to an equal playing field with my competators. It's not our task to do this. You and you only are responsible for your company/site. Sounds to me there is something very wrong with your compagny/site if you need a listing with DMOZ for help. My advise: 1. be patient, wait for an editor to review the site and concentrate on other things to do for your site 2. stop suggesting your site (it is listed for review) 3. don't suggest it in all kinds of categories, it will only be listed in the one (1) best category. submitting it in several categories will probably slowdown processing of your site. and only the main url/site will be listed 4. did I already mention just wait for an editor to review the site I will not answer PM or emails send to me. If you have anything to ask please use the forum.

darrentekstar Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I understand your frustration, i have only waited 6 weeks,. seems to pretty backed up and a lot of these questions the editors get asked, could be completely avoided if the system generated a reference number, at point of submission,. then editors could concentrate on submissions. A simple search engine on dmoz for those waiting to see the status of what is going on with their submission, not looked at yet, declined, whatever,... Not rocket science. I am surprised that nobody would think of such a simple thing like this on creation of dmoz. Save time, create efficency, not only benefiting the users, but more so the editors time... at this point i would rather pay hard earned cash for it to just happen,.. and kill this waiting game. If everyone is volunteer's,.. maybe that should be changed, give people some good saleries and charge for this service,. i and anyone out there who really CARES about getting their site listed, would be willing to pay. Anyone know a organization that does something simular to what DMOZ does, but just faster, am willing to pay at this point. thanks.
bobrat Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 If we charged we would not be ODP - we would be just another paid directory - the fact that it is run by volunteers is what makes ODP unique. It's an even playing field, a multimillion dollar company site has as much chance as a freebie site. The day ODP became a paid directory, the majority of the editors who do 90% of the editing would have gone by the end of the week. Bit it can't become a paid directory - read http://dmoz.org/socialcontract.html As far as search engines, submission notification, it's old hat, gets discussed many time a week, it won't happen since it does not improve the directory from the point of it's users. It improves ODP as a service for web site owners - but since ODP is not a service for web site owners, there are more important things for tech support to work on. There are lots of directories who would love to take your money and list you fast, don't wait around for us to list your site. -------------------------- Oops we got a liitle off topic for the thread Secondary status checks now require a six month wait.
