Guest Posted September 22, 2002 Posted September 22, 2002 Hi! I submited the site on 21.08.02 to the category: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Webcams/Communities is there a problem with the site? Thanks in advance.
sabre23t Posted September 22, 2002 Posted September 22, 2002 Your site is waiting patiently with about 10 other sites in the cat. The cat has a listed editor and the public page shows it was last updated in July 2002. I guess you have to wait a bit.
Guest Posted September 22, 2002 Posted September 22, 2002 tx for the fast reply! How long can we wait for the listing/review?
totalxsive Posted September 22, 2002 Posted September 22, 2002 Simple answer: we don't know. There is an editor in that category, and although he/she hasn't logged in very recently, there are probably 300+ other editors who can edit in that category and will therefore be able to review your site. Assuming your site fits the guidelines, it'll be accepted sometime in the coming weeks, I imagine. But it is impossible to give a date as to when the site will be reviewed.
Guest Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 Is there anyone I can ask to review my site? Thanks in advance
beebware Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 Nope - if it's in a queue, it will be reviewed when it's reviewed and not before. Editors do try and treat all sites fairly and try not to give 'priority rights' to any submissions (for example, we _could_ review and list any site posted in this formed straight away, but that would "penalise" any sites waiting in the queue - but if we just "look" at the category and leave all the sites in the queue for the "local editor" to review, then that is more fair to all concerned - plus it removes any allegations of inproper conduction/unfair promotion etc etc.) By all means, if you really want to, email the "local editor" directly (go to the category page, scroll down until you see "Category editors:", click on the editors name and click 'send feedback') - but there is no guarantee that a) you will get a response from the editor or b) that they will do anything. Sometimes it might fire off a thought "oh - I haven't logged into ODP for a while now", but... You mileage may vary.
Meta hutcheson Posted September 23, 2002 Meta Posted September 23, 2002 This looks like a category where, um, financial self-interest might not consistently override any sense of honor or fairness. Might you be willing to volunteer to edit it yourself?
Guest Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 yes, i would gladly do it. Thank you for the offer.
giz Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 There is a link to the editor application form from the category page. Answer all the questions using a text editor, keep a copy of your text; copy and paste it into the form. Read http://dmoz.org/help/become.html . Suggest three new sites for the category, and write suitable Titles and Descriptions for them. If finding three sites is too difficult, maybe one site could be an already listed site where you supply a much better title and description than the existing one. Paste into this thread, the editor name you chose for ODP, if different to the one you have used here. Good Luck.
Guest Posted September 26, 2002 Posted September 26, 2002 I just submitted my application. The editor name I chose for ODP is: webexpert. Hope all goes well. Thanks in advance. Bob
Guest Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Can anybody tell me if there is anything new? Thank you in advance
giz Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Re: http://www.imlive.com/ Published in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Webcams/Communities about 15 hours ago (not by me). Public page regeneration can take up to 24 hours sometimes.
