Can't submit redirect page

I understand you can't submit a URL that redirects to another page. That makes sense. However, we just transferred our site, www.myheadsets.com to redirect to a page in our new e-commerce site - www.mainresource.com/Headsets/headsets.html. It has all the information the old myheadsets had, but now it is attached to our online ordering and account status. Is there anyway I can get this listed apart from www.mainresource.com?

 

I want to submit to: Business/Telecommunications/Equipment/Suppliers/Hardware_Accessories/Headsets_and_Handsets

BUT, I don't want them to think I'm trying to trick them into listing my main site twice.

 

Any ideas how to do this? Thanks!

I suggest you only submit the ONE page that encompasses all of your content. Do not submit deeplinks of your pages. In other words, submit the root url, that is all.

I guess I can't really comment on Shopping Sites as I don't edit in that section. But I was wondering - given all the 'splash page', 'flash intro', 'doorway pages' and 'welcome pages' that are so common these days, would it perhaps be a mistake to simply rule-out deeplink site submissions as the root URL is often one of the above. In such cases, a deeplink URL would get a visitor to the relevant information that much quicker. Just a thought.

I don't think we should be outhinking the web designer. If he wants flash on his opening page today, then it's not our job to make his website easier to navigate. And tomorrow he may change his mind, get rid of the flash, and make the opening page user friendly, and then we will have the wrong URL listed.

We don't rule out deeplink submittals. But it would require VERY weighty reasons indeed -- far more than attempting to subvert the websites usual navigation no matter how idiotic -- to list a deeplink instead of the main domain.

 

The fundamental reason is simple: We are normally listing websites, not web pages. The expectation is that websites that are worth listing will continue to grow and add content. And growth impels reorganization. When the webmaster rearranges the site, it imposes extra work on us (tracking down the new URL for the content at the site), which we'd rather spend building a directory. So, unless there's really a significant benefit to the directory, we ought not to list the deeplinks.

 

Obviously some sites are worth deeplinking, regardless of the effort. But every season, some big-time-deep-linked site undergoes a total reorganization, and editors go scurrying around the directory fixing several thousand links. For Project Gutenberg, it's worth it. For any shopping site in the known universe, it is not. For other sites, we'd rather avoid having to make that decision.

RobParker, the only time when listing the redirected page instead of the intro page would make sense would be if you couldn't get past the first page without a plugin (e.g. a Flash splash page that you can't get past without a Flash).
