Guest jersey_boy Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Jewelry/Body/ . Is there a link within the DMOZ where we can go to check the status of a submission, or must it be handled through this forum? I'm trying to check the status of http://www.doggtagz.com which I first submitted about a month ago, and again a few days ago when I hadn't heard anything. Appreciate any feedback, Thanks! Chris.
giz Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Thanks for supplying clickable links. The site has not been touched yet. It hasn't been reviewed, added or deleted. There are nearly 150 unreviewed sites in that category so it may be quite a long time before someone gets to it. An editor may visit tomorrow or next week, or it may be several or many months. Editors do not have a set workload or quota, and many have an aversion to Shopping categories because they attract a large amount of spam, mirrors, affiliate, and other unlistable sites. Your site redirects to: http://doggtagz.showmethelogo.com/ and is a subsite of http://www.showmethelogo.com/ , and this will probably be the URL that is listed, unless other evidence of affiliates or redirects is found. There is no need to submit again if it is in the queue. In fact, new submissions take your listing to the back end of the queue each time. I would wait at least 6 weeks and then enquire again in this forum, and in this thread (bookmark it - no need to start a new thread because old threads are moved to the top of the list the moment a new message is added to it). [useful Site Check1, Check2 Not required for a listing]
Guest jersey_boy Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Thank You! Would I be better off submitting the url as http://doggtagz.showmethelogo.com Thanks Again! Chris.
beebware Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Well, http://www.doggtagz.com *is* in fact http://doggtagz.showmethelogo.com - so the latter is the one we would list (see the editors guidelines for details). However, http://doggtagz.showmethelogo.com is just a subsite of http://www.showmethelogo.com/ and would therefore not be listed (see guidelines ). But, http://www.showmethelogo.com/ is able to be listed - and according to giz, is awaiting review with around 150 other sites.
giz Posted September 25, 2002 Posted September 25, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Please do not resubmit, the site is in the queue. The local editor will list the correct URL based on the editor notes and the information in this thread. The multiple submission of mirrored, doorway, or redirect URLs can very rapidly begin to look like spam, especially if submitted to multiple categories, so is best avoided. An editor faced with a site that has multiple 'Deleted Duplicate' notes on it, is fairly likely to delete that copy as well. It may take a while for the site to be listed as there is a large number of unreviewed in the chosen category. If you see no change in about 6 weeks time, either email the editor (or one in a higher category) directly [don't expect a reply though], or else post into this thread again (threads with new messages posted in them automatically move to the top of the list, so there is no need to start new threads each time).
Guest jersey_boy Posted September 28, 2002 Posted September 28, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ OK, Thanks. To avoid confusion, I have moved URI http://www.doggtagz.com to it's own domain, so the homepage no longer redirects to http://doggtagz.showmethelogo.com . I was confused as to what a redirect really is. In my newbie frame of mind, a redirect would be when you type in "www.britneyspears.c0m" and are redirected to something like "www.britneyishot.c0m". I own both Show Me The Logo and DoggTagz, --- Doggtagz.(com) is actually a subsidiary of Show Me The Logo, not an affiliate - so I didn't want it to be listed as http://www.showmethelogo.com or thought of as an affiliate web site. Please note that just the homepage for DoggTagz has been moved to the new domain. If I need to move all the files to the new domain to get a proper listing, just let me know and I will gladly do so. Thanks for all your help, it's been invaluable. Chris.

Guest jersey_boy Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Well, it's been about 12 weeks. Is my submission for http://www.doggtagz.com still in the queue? Thanks much! Merry Christmas to All! Chris.
Meta kokopeli Posted December 24, 2002 Meta Posted December 24, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ It is still in the queue with a submission date of 19/Sep/2002 12:29:48 MDT. There are over a hundred sites currently waiting for review. It looks like this is a busy cat for submissions, it may be awhile yet.
Guest jersey_boy Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Do you know whether or not someone is actively working on this category?
Guest rfgdxm Posted December 27, 2002 Posted December 27, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ A check of the editors profile shows that his total cat space is something like 100,000 sites. I am tending to think this does not bode well. One thing you need to understand is that the ODP has a backlog of over one *million* unreviewed sites. It isn't at all unusual for it to take over a year before a site gets reviewed. I'm an ODP editor, and picked up some new cat space recently with plenty of unrevieweds from 2001, and even some from the year 2000. Time it takes sites to get reviewed tends to depend a lot on where they are submitted. In some categories with few submissions and an active editor sites often get reviewed with in a couple weeks or so. In backlogged areas of the directory it can take many months, and even over a year. You might get lucky and an editor will get to the cat your site is in shortly. However, it could also be that many months will go by before this happens. Remember, the ODP is a volunteer organization. With not enough editors on one side, and these editors having to slog through a lot of spam submissions, this takes time. Probably not what you want to hear, but this is the reality.
sabre23t Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ The public side of Shopping/Jewelry/Body/ shows at the bottom "Last update: 6:43 PT, Saturday, November 23, 2002". So sites was last added/deleted/updated then. However, I do see a few editors (other than the listed editor) editing there.
Guest jersey_boy Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ It's been a while now; has this category been moving? Is my submission still in the queue? Thanks, Chris.
lachenm Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Your site is still waiting for review, still with lots of others. Sorry the news isn't better.
Guest jersey_boy Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Hi - it's been a while. Has this category been moving at all? Thanks, Chris.
Alucard Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ There has been no change in the status of your site, I'm afraid - it still awaits reveiw.
Guest jersey_boy Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Hello All, Is this category moving at all? Would I better off resubmitting to a different category say .. http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Niche/Military/ or http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Niche/Military/Dog_Tags/ Just wondering... Thanks, Chris.
spectregunner Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Moving a properly submitted submission to a different category in hopes of getting a faster review is a lose-lose proposition, and we strongly recommend against it.
Guest jersey_boy Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Re: http://www.doggtagz.com/ Point taken...Thanks.
