Instead of jumping in with all these accusations, why not take the time to read the forum posting guidelines [the ones that say Read the guidelines before posting], and post your request again as a reply to this thread, providing only the information we need to answer your question, and leaving out the rest [since I know for sure it was not an editor who was your competitor who was looking at your site].

ADDED - title change - ok, if you say so

My wife says I don't have any, that's why I post a warning. Nevertheless to get an answer from an editor who could answer [not me] we still need the clickable category.

In case you misunderstood

hutcheson is saying it's currently in that category waiting for review. When that review occurs is entirely unpredictable. It is predictable, however, that when it is reviewed, if accepted, the description will be nothing like the one you list.

[You could however, have some mercy on the future reviewer by removing the music. I'll send you a bill for replacement speakers :( ]

Thanks for the clarification.....

Sorry about the speakers....

Hard to find music that is somewhere between Led Zeppelin and Mozart

Just a tip: remove that sound (wouldn't call it music) completely.
As most visitors I immediately close a site that is bringing me unwanted (and completely unrelated to the site) sounds.

Music calms the savage beast....

Although I don't think it works in your case....

pvgool, thank you for your kind words,

From a $ales point of view the music is exciting and gets a potential client motivated about picking up the phone and calling us out to their home or business to have that exotic concrete work done they always have dreamed of...."a wake up call" so to speak....

Apparently it works because a dozen or so people a day that have visited our website call us inquiring for our services....

If you don't like music what are your speakers doing on in the first place?

You don't really believe that hype do you? I have never once dreamed about exotic concrete work and have never been motivated by music on a site to buy anything, though if something is good enough I might buy despite the music. Who knows, if you switched it off you might get 100 people a day calling you. On my broadband link it sounds like someone is constantly turning it on and off every few seconds - granted it might play smoothly for others, but there will be loads like me where it sounds like a kid twiddling with a radio tuning knob.

They're on so that I can listen to whatever *I* want to as I'm surfing? A tip: most people who actually want sound while they are surfing are actually listening to something.

There are few things more annoying IMO than having someone force their music on you. How would you feel if, as you're driving down the road, every store that you passed was able to drown out the music playing on your car stereo with whatever they decided to blast out? How annoying would that be? That's what you're doing.

But, hey, it's your site.

thank you for your advice...

A kid twiddling with a radio knob doesn't sound very enticing I agree...May I suggest upgrading your computer?

There seems little point, it is only a year old and yours is the only site I can recall having a problem with. Now you are going to try going without the music I can dream of exotic concrete in peace. ;)

Music on my site....

I appreciate everyones critique on the music on my site, each one of you have brought up some viable concerns pursuant to a specific users actual time spent on my site....

After careful consideration I have decided to keep the music, many of my pages have different types music playing in the background depending on the theme of the page....
If a visitor lands on my site, chances are they want a swimming pool, patio or some sort of radical architectural concrete...

I want the users to listen to my music, not their own....I want their full undivided attention....they can listen to whatever they want to, AFTER they leave my site, but while they are there at my site I want to mesmerize them and yes manipulate the user to either picking up the phone and calling my office or to fill out my estimate request form.

My site is a "sales tool", a place to send my clients to configure their upcoming project, estimate their upcoming project and to view our gallery of completed jobs, pick colors, use our online design tool, online calculators and many other online tools that people are free to use pursuant to any type of decorative concrete, masonry or aquatic project, both residential and commercial.

Their full attention on our site is imperative to "closing the sale". I don't want a user listening to Rod Stewart while they browse my site...I want them listening to my music - very up-beat...fast...and exciting...just like how construction is...fast paced, exciting and invigorating. We intend on "controling the sale"

We want people to be excited about their upcoming project - We want a targeted audience not "window shoppers" .

I would like to reiterate that my site should be listed in the aforementioned catagory as well as some other sites that should be listed.

I have applied for a position with ODP to assist in editing this site but I was turned down due to "Fluor Daniel not being located in Houston"..(WHICH THEY ARE) and I also recommended Baker Concrete and this person that denied my voluntary editing position said that they also were not in Houston??? (Which they are) Both Businesses together occupy over 168,000 sq ft of office space in Houston and maintain their websites from Houston...Why would I bring that up?...because if your going to be an editor at least do your home work before you make absurd statements and deny willing and qualified people to assist in editing a catagory that is in obvious need of a quality collection of useful websites...

I realize that the editors have much more work then they can handle and that is why I offered my expertise....

Any additional advice or observations would be warmly accepted

dave

And now think about all those people that make a quick visit to your site while being at work. They are not supposed to visit your website (their boss may think other things - like work - are more important). And wham their is your music.
Atleast where I'm living any music on a commercial website is seen as very bad thing to do as it will cost you customers. Just ask any serious website builder in your neigbourhood.

About your rejection. You can be very sure that the reviewing editor knows what (s)he is talking about. I did a quick search through Google for both companies mentioned by you and they both should not be listed in Houston. On http://dmoz.org/guidelines/regional/ (which you should have read before applying) you can read why.
