I intentionally entered the domain in this format so as to avoid "link dropping". Out of curiousity, and so I know for the future, why is this format not acceptable?
The only reason for including your site URL (in any form) is in the hopes that an editor will give you information or comments about your site and/or its suggestion to the ODP. Since none of that is appropriate here, there's no need to put the URL (in any form) in your post.

I double checked.
I was incorrect.
I'm sorry if it caused any confusion.
No worries...i was hoping the mistake was on my end as is usually the case :(.

Thanks again for all the feedback.

Cheers,

Andrew

I've never had any luck with DMOZ. I tried submitting my Jazz Rock Fusion site <URL Removed> back in 2000 and a few more times since, and it never got listed.

When I upgraded the site to Jazz Rock World and submitted it late last year- same thing - nothing.

I tried using http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Styles/J/Jazz/Fusion/ as the appropriate category.

I can't think of a better place to submit a Jazz Rock Fusion site. I'm one of the editors at MusicMoz, too (go figure...)

I just gave up...

Rick Calic

P.S. Wikipedia seems to be a much better place to get listed. I get a lot of clicks from there.

I'd submit it one more time, Rick, we did have a major crash, and it took awhile to get back on our feet. :)

Thanks Crowbar,

I'm not sure, but I think I have already submitted it again within the last three months. Don't know if it will screw anything up if I do it again.

Well, how bad could it screw up? I'll do it...

Thanks,

Rick

Giving up too

Hi,

We are a reputable website/company as well and after reading many post here, I am giving up too. We have submitted our unique content website since about 3 years + without success. I have been told in 2004 (on this forum) that our website was down when it was reviewed but we have been up probably for more that 99.5% since 2000. Maybe somebody checked it the 0.5%. Possible... but very very unlikely.

My concern is the fact that the editor might be somebody that work for competitor who control the listing, maybe, maybe not, but there is no transparency that will prove me the contrary.

I still think a project like dmoz is important, but I still think it should have a transparent process or a way for the webmaster who submit links to know why they are rejected or if the editor in not active and its why it has not been listed.

From my experience, still have a better chance to win a lottery thank being listed on Dmoz. At least I know the numbers on my ticket and the results of the draw. Here no way to know, just cross your fingers.

Cheers,

Eric

As every site suggestion is nothing more than a suggestion, and as we aren't obligated to list it (as no site has a right to be listed), you've made the right decision, I think. Just forget about it.

Sorry to hear you've been having problems getting your site listed. I have been posting and reposting my site for about four months now and I thought that was bad! (It's STILL not listed). I check once in a while but basically I think I'm just going to give up.

Repeatedly suggesting your site is pretty bad, yes, in particular in such a short space of time. There is NO reaon to suggest a site more than once. The guidelines which you have to agree that you have read each time you suggest a site tell you to suggest it once to the one most suitable category. The site suggestion does not go away until it has been reviewed. Technical errors happen and so sometimes a suggestion isn't received properly -- ONE resuggestion after half a year or so will take care of that remote contingency (most suggested sites are reviewed quicker than that, but it really depends on the category). Suggesting the site more than that, and more often, unfortunately means that you are spamming the site. Not necessarily very badly, and probably not enough to be banned (being banned for spamming is reserved for the very bad cases), but it will most likely delay your site's review simply because you create more work for the editors, and more work with cleaning out duplicates means less time reviewing sites.

There is no time frame for reviewing suggested sites. There is no time frame for suggesting sites which have never been suggested. Some editors concentrate on one source of sites such as suggestions from the public, other editors concentrate on mining links sites for good sites to list, or on reviewing and listing sites posted in the paper or what have you. Please bear that in mind - the ODP doesn't provide a listing service for webmasters.
