Help for changing the description

Our site http://www.essendeinki.com is listed in the category :

Business: Electronics and Electrical: Electromechanical: Connectors and Terminals

But the description is slightly wrong.

Currently, it is :

Manufacturers of PCB and transition connectors, dip connectors and cable connector assemblies, terminal blocks and terminal strips. Also includes miniature microswitches and relay timer sockets.

Please help me change it to :

ISO 9002 manufacturer of Electrical & Electronic connectors, components & accessories, PCB connectors, DIN 41612 connectors, DIP connectors, Transition connectors, Back Panel connectors, PC Board Headers, Box Headers, Terminals, Microswitches, Micro Control Switches from India.

1: No we wont change a description from a good one using full sentences into a keyword-list.

2: Please use the "Update URL" feature at the upper right of every category for updates. THis is the only way updates are possible.

I am sorry if it seems to you as a keyword list but these are some of the products essen deals in.

I had already tried using Update URL but in vain.

If it is not possible for you to change it as stated above,

I request you to make it the following:

ISO 9002 manufacturer of Electrical & Electronic connectors, components & accessories, PCB headers, box headers, terminal blocks & terminal strips, cable connector assemblies, microswitches, micro control switches from India.

I feel, this would suit you right.

To be honest, I'd say you should be thankful for the current description, as it seems a bit keyword stuffed to me. If I had edited that it might have been "Manufacturer of connectors and microswitches based in India" or such.

I appreciate your efforts in not making the description keyword rich.

But, Essen is into the business of manufacturing a wide range of electrical & electronic connectors, components & accessories.

By adding "electrical & electronic" before connectors will make a description a sense of business we are in.

So, can you please make it as:

"ISO 9002 manufacturer of electrical & electronic connectors, terminals and microswitches based in India".

"Electrical and electronics" are already in the category path. All sites in that category, and in all other subcategories of Business/Electronics_and_Electrical, are about businesses in the electronics and electrical industry.

You might find the replies in this thread informative, especially the one from hutcheson.

You should try to read between the lines... If I (or another editor) would touch this entry based on a forum posting, it surely would not end up in the form you requested.

You can submit whatever descriptions you want. But ...

Let me _strongly_ encourage you to drop this BEFORE someone reviews the _current_ listing, which IMO already has too many keyword repetitions to be acceptable.

It's a WEBSITE description, not a CORPORATE PRODUCT CATALOG.

On the other hand, you mention "India" -- Have you submitted the site to a category under Regional/Asia/India?

I did not want it to be region specific. I just wanted to tell that the company is based in India because many people look for prospective business in India.

Actually, now I have understood that I should not mention anything besides the main objective of the site.

Can we have the description as:

"ISO 9002 manufacturer of connectors, terminals and microswitches."

If yes, please make the changes accordingly.

Given that someone was likely to end up going in to change the current description of the site anyway, I went ahead and changed it per your suggestion (which is better than what was there). Ordinarily, you would be advised to do what you'd done in the past and submit an update request from that category page.

BTW, I agree that the last description is not bad. You could also say something about what the web site contains...product catalog, online sales?

My point about the regional listing is not _in place of_, but _in addition to_ the topical listing. Does the company hire employees? does the site give employment information? -- if so, then it has a distinct interest for _local_ job seekers, and ought also to be listed in a local category.

Do you mean that if the site is relevant for mutiple categories (but with a differnet approach), it can be submitted to all these categories.

If yes then,

Can we have deep links (inner links) of the site (related pages) or should we submit the home page only.

The description should be same or different for all these categories.

(I was facing one more problem. Actually when my site was accepted in the category in Jan, 2003, if you visit the category, it was being shown in the category but did not appeared in the search results if search for either by the title or keywords for about 15-20 days. I had not experienced the same with any of my previous submissions. Is this due to delay in DMOZ updation or is that DMOZ has changed its policy or so. I was very confused.

Also, It is still not appearing in Google directory and others. Can you help me specifying an estimated time duration for their acceptance.)

No - this means if you're listed under the most appropriate topical category (which it appears you are) you can also submit your site to your city/locality's category in the Regional/ section of the directory, if you have a physical presence or contact address there. (If there's more than one location, submit to the locality your company's based in.)

It looks like your main location is in Chandigarh - if that's the case, Regional/Asia/India/Chandigarh/Business_and_Economy/Industries/Manufacturing/ is the best match.

Thanks for clearing the situation. But one point that remains still is whether the URL, title and the description should be the same or it can be different for different categories.

Use the same URL, title, and description. There are sometimes differences in descriptions between a topical category and a Regional category (such as inclusion of the location in a topical description but removal of that location info from a Regional one) but in this case the description is appropriate for both.

This problem was most probably related to search database issues. If you search for essendeinki.com your site comes up with the old description. Update of the search database depends on the update of the RDF dump.

While reading at webmasterworld, I found that we can view RDF dump at http://dmoz.org/rdf/ or http://rdf.dmoz.org/

But when I tried to view them, I could not understand them at all.

Is there any specific technique used for this purpose.

Also,

Can you help me specify in how much time period, Google directory and others start taking up of DMOZ data.

If you want to know the status you only need to view tags.html - thats the last status report. Should be "RDF pushed"

If you want to download the data you hasve to download the big file, unpack it (its zipped as you can see on the .gz filetype). Its plain text then.
