Oops, did we forget to tell you? We don't have to edit at all, maybe I'll take the next month off, :D .

By the way, did you know that one can actually have quite a few windows open at the same time? It's somethin new. Who says we're not editing, and popping back in here occasionally? I think I'll close all my windows, now, I can do that, you know, :).

Because of all those stupid complaints here I am considering not to review any suggested sites in 2007. If those people are not interested in what DMOZ is about and only care about their own website I see no reason why I should be interested in their interests. There is so much more to do than reviewing suggested sites. We are busy with a large quality control in the part of DMOZ I am "working" in which already moved about 1,5% of the sites back to unreviewed and marked another 4% for inspection. I am also building a complete new part of the directory in which I could list some 1000 to 2000 sites (of which maybe 10 are already suggested). Yep. Sounds a good idea to me. I won't review any suggested sites anymore. Why would I help those egoistic webmasters promoting their websites.

Good idea, pvgool, I've got many other things to work on in the Directory myself. Maybe we should bring up for discussion, the topic of shutting off all site suggestions for good, and just finding new sites on our own.

I think this conversation has reached termination status. Clearly, plasmator is opposed to the ODP goals -- doesn't like the effect it has on the search engines: everyone's entitled to personal prejudices. And, equally clearly, editors have said clearly enough that they don't care for plasmator's goals and don't care to be controlled by that ilk. And that's a freedom we're all entitled to, also.

What's missing is -- any common ground: any goal that we all can agree is good, any procedure we all agree is fair.

Well, the ODP has well-established and well-validated goals and procedures. Anyone who approves has opportunities to help. Anyone who doesn't care has other places to go. And anyone who thinks they have a better goal, or a better way of pursuing it ... has the freedom to try it out, and see how many people join in. There are lots of alternative goals and procedures: I, for one, would like to see more of them tried. Go for it!
