We all lead busy lives, I am sure, and if the editors are anything like me, like to get things 'done and dusted' so that the next job can take priority. It's just very frustrating to find that your web site is still listed under the wrong category even when you have tried to update it. I just want to get it out of the way so that I can get on with other things! Not much to ask is it?

Apparently it is too much to ask from most of the editors yes

We have had the same - in our case we created a new site (1,200 pages - very up to date) and instead of updating our listing they removed it !

And as you have probably found - when you contact an editor - No reply !

So having complained, I definitely now take my hat off and say thank you for sorting this out.

I agree with having some sort of automated status feedback!
Is two months reasonable to resubmit a site if it's not listed yet? I don't know, and don't want to be blacklisted for submitting too often. What do I need to change to get it listed? I don't know and would waste time of all parties involved.

A simple status automated feedback of when and why would allow me to make the those changes necessary and not submit more than I have to. It should be automated so that I can login and see URL submitted, where in the directory it was submitted to, and status of 'not reviewed' and 'reviewed'. If reviewed the editor can pick from a list, For example 'listed', 'rejected - too promotional', 'rejected - unfinished site', etc. There wouldn't need to have any interaction with editor. Editor would then not receive multiple submits, review the same site multiple times that's not fixed and users would know what editors didn't like about the site... any chance of this happening?

There is no need to resubmit a site again, at all. (However, if you haven't suggested it for review since October last year, you may suggest it again, once, since some site suggestions were lost in the system crash then.) A review suggestion doesn't go away until the site is reviewed and the URL is listed or deleted. If the site is still waiting for review there is absolutely no point in suggesting it again; that is likely to make the process take longer. If it has been deleted as being against our guidelines to list, there is also no point in suggesting it again.

No, there is no chance of that happening. There was a really good post earlier today, by chaos127 explaining exactly why an automated status check wouldn't be such a good idea - I'll link to that thread instead of trying to say the same thing again :)

I've read the link and agree with protecting yourselves against the spammers and useless sites. My fear (maybe I'm just too insecure and impatient) is that I suggested a site to be listed that provides a legitimate service of providing/selling intellectual property (IP), and that I may have put a too positive light on its description so that it is interpreted as 'spammy' or missed some technicality so that it 'goes against our guidelines to list'. I'd like to know something like that, fix it, and resubmit it. It's that big 'IF' you state above that I worry about. My approach now is based on assumption: wait one more month (assuming 3 months is adequate time for a review) and resubmit (assuming it needs a better description? or better alt tags? or get rid of features coming soon so that an expanding offering is not interpreted as not finished? I have no idea why it would have been deleted because I consider the site legitimate). I just hope you don't see me as too ignorant, just a bit frustrated, and the last thing I need is being blacklisted for resubmitting... Thanks for your replies. Just think this is the point of view of many legitimate developers.

I may have put a too positive light on its description

We constantly deal with this, and deal with it is what we do. We simply do not deline to list a site because the title and or description are not guidelines compliant.

We may curse one's genomes, but we make teh T&D guidelines compliant and move on. It is what we do.

The critical factor in all of this is the content of the website.

If the site suffers from a profound lack of unique content, it will not get listed no matter how masterfully the title and description were put together.

If the site is rich in unique content, and it complies with our guidelines in all other respects, an editor will list it even if the title is: Hi Mom! and the description is: spectregunner is a fink!
