Dead and outdated links in shareware directories, part II

This time I decided to start checking listed sites from the beginning, so look at my results, MORE THAN 50% of links are bad! After that you will say that your existing editors do their work good and you do not need new editors for that category?! So, let's proceed:
1. ab-archive.com - contains a HUGE amount of badware downloads (99 downloads marked red at siteadvisor.com report, see details at http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/ab-archive.com)
2. absoluteshareware.com, allworldsoft.com, bestvistadownloads.com - the same as above
3. annesoft.com - lists ONLY affiliated downloads hosted on their other sites e.g. software-phile.com , triplequadturbo.com etc., just take a look at their download links to see if where do they take!
4. shareware-4-you.com - try to click on their 'Web & E-Business' and find out some iteresting "downloads", including "IX Web Hosting", "Yahoo! web hosting" etc.
5. best-software.co.uk - the front page does not contain any information but only the links to categories, and when entering any category you see only this: "Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'bestsoft_simon'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/bestsoft/public_html/showpads.php on line 145
Error connecting to the database server".
6. 100apps.com - please try to find the list of categories on their front page or any other helpful navigation links. Could you? Hint: go to the ultra bottom and find small link to alphabetical listings, follow the link and find lots of casino downloads and lots of other crap there! Also you are welcome to check their rating at siteadvisor.com. And this site is listed in DMOZ???!!!
7. bluedownloads.com - open the site and see the only phrase written: "Put here you're welcome text". Very valuable resource, of course... Also you may click on "Hitman pro 2.6" link to read the following in pure English: "hitman pro is een alles in 1 scanner. U kunt met dit programma eenvoudig virussen verwijderen enz."
8. binarymagic.com - take a look at their top banner taking to smileycentral.com site providing lots of adware containing smileys downloads.

To be continued...

Dead links in Shareware Directories, part III

Once started, it is really hard to stop :)
1. hotlib.com - they claim to provide 50000 software titles to download. Please try to search their site for "cucusoft dvd to ipod converter" using their site search engine on the right column and get amazed with 29 identical search results :))))))
2. itshareware.com - lots of badware download, please refer to siteadvisor.com report
3. internetsecuritysoftware.org - right on their home page you will find a LARGE "Click here to start free registry scan" button taking to reseller's subdomain page www.registry-booster.com-http.com/free-scan.html (you may check users opinions on siteadvisor.com for its main domain, com-http.com to find out some interesting details regarding hosted software) for rogue Registry Booster software with lots of fake Microsoft Partner certificates. And this sime claims to be an internet security resource and is listed in DMOZ???!!!
To be continued...
P.S.: It seems I could find another way to edit this full of crap category unless your "big boys" do not accept my submission as an editor for that category...

Dead links in Shareware Directories, part IV (enough for today)

1. sharewarehunter.com - the same issue as with hotlib.com I have reported in my previous post (they claim to have listed 61481 downloads, even more than on hotlib.com!)
2. sharewareking.com - open their main page to see the featured software called "NewsShark v2.0 by WMHSOFT" and see the release date, it is... 10-22-2002! Indeed, not only me but lots of other visitors will also be impressed with their fresh content :)))

OK, it's enough for today, good night, see you tomorrow again...

Where are 2 of my previous posts?

Hi again, 2 days ago I have submitted 3 posts, but until now only the third (dead and outdated links in shareware directories, part IV) is displayed, however, no action is performed! What is the matter?

Not Powerboat Related.

This site used to be a powerboat racing site, but now no more..

http://www.rocket-racing.com/

Also I'm not sure of the structure of the directory, in relation to Powerboat Racing. If you take the UIM which is the world governing body for all forms of motorised water sport, this includes, jet ski, wet bike, jet boat, offshore, inshore types of racing.

The boat racing, is coming under motor racing, not water sports, although there is a reference to take you over to the boat racing, which is under motor sport.

Another thing I noticed is that there is one link in boat racing called "Drag Boat Racing" I don't think this should be there..

It helps if you give a link to the category where the site in question is or where you think there are issues. It also helps if you explain why you don't think something belongs. :D

ok,
The Top: Sports: Motorsports: Boat Racing (95)
http://www.dmoz.org/Sports/Motorsports/Boat_Racing/

You have the following site listed in the main "Boat Racing" section.
http://dragboatracing.com/

It's the only site listed there, I can't understand why it would be there, when there are sub categories more suitable.

The site that is no longer a powerboat racing site found under:-
http://www.dmoz.org/Sports/Motorsports/Boat_Racing/Organizations/

It's listed as Junior Racing, which it was 2 years ago..

My previous reports

Hi again,

After you have finally added two of my previously submitted reports (dead links in shareware directories, parts II and III) all later posts have changed their numbers, therefore even you cannot understand now if what posts you have already processed and what posts (including my last posts) remained out of your attention.

This thread is meant to help facilitate quality control issues. There are only a few members of this forum who are actively working through the posts here. There is no guarantee that the response will be swift or that the corrections made will match what was posted. The preferred method to ensure qc problems are properly addressed is to submit an update request in the category where the problems reside.

We recognize that it may be easier to report those here, hence the existence of this thread. We do our best to process all reports made here as soon as possible. With a limited number of editors willing to work on them who have permissions in all the categories, when we get the rapid fire reports of problems we sometimes fall behind.

If anyone feels that their report has been over looked, the can remind us of it here (link to the Item# will be helpful) or feel free to navigate to the category in question and submit an update request.

I went back a few pages and show the following not being marked as dealt with:

Item# 3503
Item# 3505
Item# 3508

I will go back through and see if these have in fact been dealt with and just not reported or if the still need attention. If anyone has others that they feel have been overlooked please report them again.

Item# 3508 - was dealt with (not by me)

It will take a while for someone to try and go through the other two and figure out exactly what is wrong and where since they were not supplied in a user friendly format. Its hard to tell which ones are really problem listings, its important to remember that while dead links and ads are considered the reviewer blocks those out to evaluate the useful/unique content. Have a lot of ads and dead links is bad, but if there is a significant amount of usable content that isn't obscured by the junk the site is still eligible for consideration.

Still remaining and in need of attention:
Items 3503 & 3505 (I dealt with a couple of the obvious ones, but its not my area normally)
Item 3515

#3513 and #3515 dealt with, thanks. The dead link has been removed, but I cannot see any reason to move the other site into a subcategory. It appears to fit the main category.
