#1342 - skipped for now - seems to be selling cosmetics to me, albeit largely costume/drama type make up. Can't find another shopping cat that would fit.
#1345 - done :)

Broken Link

Hello. I just submitted a website and noticed a broken link for a company with a similar name as ours.

http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Mortgages/Regional/United_States/Arizona/

The link is Acacia National Mortgage Corp. which points to the following broken URL: http://www.quikstart.com/loans

To the best of my knowledge this is a separate entity from us, as I am not familiar with the website address.

I just wanted to report this for two reasons:

1. Obviously it is a broken url.
2. I was afraid there might be some confusion by an editor
when processing my recent submission for Acacia Mortgage Corporation.

Thanks and regards.

Hi Alucard,

Thank you for thanking me :)

I noticed that on #1330 you listed the original domain http://www.paleologos.gr twice, despite the fact that this company was obviously trying to cheat ODP with mirror sites and fake listings. You left its listing at http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Greece/Transportation/Maritime/Sea_Lines/Ferries/ that I think should be reserved for Ferry companies, like the other 2 listings there.

Furthermore, on #1352 I noticed that andysands corrected the 2 wrong listings to point to the actual source of images, as he said. The second one is a deep link while the first one is not the main domain http://www.360degreece.net/ that is under reconstruction.

Thank you for your comments as I am trying to understand better the criteria you use and help ODP as efficiently as I can.

glynos,

I agree that the Ferries listing is possibly suspect. What I was trying to do was to get all the various sites and domains that that company owns identified as such, then find all the listings that they had and reduce them to just two (one in Regional and one outside Regional) - both using the same URL. I found a few more than you named and it took me a long time to get them all sorted out.

Hi Alucard,

I am sure you were trying - as always - to do your best and thank you really for that. I am sorry but I think you are very indulgent (I hope this is the correct word to use) with that listing #1330. Although I have no competition with that company, I think that when someone publishes the same content on tens of different domains, we can be sure that he is trying to abuse ODP - if he submits them to different categories on purpose - and most important the internet surfers.

I did a small search and found that this company has tens of domains. At http://www.ferries.gr/links.htm most of the domains linked are from the same company with exactly the same content. I can also speculate that they have tried to submit some of them to ODP previously, I can't be sure though. I know that just having multiple domains is not violating ODP guidelines but submitting mirrored ones is and this is a clear indication of their intention.

The problem is that I have read on this forum several posts by editors that were very strict to people asking for their 2nd relevant site, mirror sites and duplicate content, so I wonder what can you say to the next company that does the same thing. This company is listed on the top of the search engines for the last few years and that old fake ODP listings were the main factors.

Anyway I just thought it may be helpful to express my opinion. Sorry for my English by the way. Thank you for all your efforts again.

Dimitris
