I have been trying all morning to submit a site ( http://www.centrevilletrailer.com ) to: Business: Automotive: Parts and Accessories: Trailers .

I have actually tried from three seperate machines. Two here on my network and one that I am fortunate enough to be able to terminal server to. My network is on a 512 DSL connection, the other machine is on a full dedicated T1.

I have been trying to submit using both IE and Netscape on all three machines. If I am lucky, I get to the point where the session is trying to load http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add.cgi... and then nothing. I did notice that if I forgot to put in the title or something, the script would respond with a screen indicating my error, but nothing indicating a successful submission. Is the item being submitted and am I then spamming the directory. Or is performance just that bad?

Any help would be appreciated. If this is a performance issue, what is the best time to submit in a 24 hour period?

The rumor is that it _might_ be a DDoS attack slowing everything down. We're not the engineers, though, and we can only wait for something to change, same as you.

So can I, it works great. Anyone want to give out the editor password it prompts me for?????

Actually, I made three attempts. First two, I received a prompt for editors password, last one same behavior as before - hanging at the add.cgi and no timeout.

This was apparently a cache problem. Now I get prompted for an editors userid and password everytime I try to add in this category.

As reported in many different threads, this is a known issue, reported to staff.

... and from staff (seen this message in several other threads round here tonight) it should be fixed now.

Try it, and then report back in this thread any funkiness still observed.

Sorry, no change from here. Cleared cookies, browser cache, etc, etc. Restarted IE. Still get a message prompting me for an editor login id and password.

After reading all the posts and the FAQ's it looks like it isn't how I am submitting my site. I was concerned that maybe it was an IE problem, but from previous posts doesn't seem like it. I tried it on and off all day yesterday and then again this morning at 6:00 AM EST (most of US is/should be sleeping) and it just hangs there with no response...nor does it time out. Occasionally I get the edit login name/password nag screen. Sounds like I am definitely not alone.

Oh, this is kind of cool.

Error recieved this morning while still trying to submit this same site:

Centreville Trailers is just one of the submissions that I have to do now, I have about 15 more to do as well. I have tried this in a number of categories, including the regional and get the same error no matter what time of the day or night. Is anyone having any luck submitting? I kind of figured today would be a good day with much of the east coast having power problems from the storm.

One of the public servers appears to be down. Until the configuration of the new system has been fully adjusted, this will happen from time to time. Hopefully, it will all be cleared up in a couple of weeks. :monacle:

Re: Same Error

If while looking around the public side you ever see "editors" in the URL, or a reference to port "8081" then it is never going to work. Close the browser, restart, and try again at dmoz.org (not any other subdomain), hit reload or refresh a few times too and see if it makes any difference. One of the public servers keeps getting a problem. If you hit that one then it simply doesn't work. This is being looked into. Several fixes have been applied to the original server bug, but each fix seems to reveal another problem, this being the later incarnation of it. We are well aware of the problem. Editors are not in any position to fix it. Staff are aware of the bug, and once the weather improves, will be back on the job. Expect "resolution within weeks" seems to have been hinted at elsewhere.

I don't think that this is always necessary. The weird thing about this error is that it seems to alternate between being random and cyclic, which leads one to think that some odd bit of voodoo finally did the trick. Just going back and then reloading the page will work eventually. Sometimes instantly, sometimes after 5 or 10 minutes.

Just my :2cents: YMMV

Re: Same Error

It may be because one of the three public servers has a problem. Refresh enough times and you will eventually get one of the others instead. Some people might need to clear cache and/or restart browser (while others may not) so I included it in the instructions anyway, just in case.

I am still having these same issues. Any word when the problem will be fixed?
