Ive learned not to exoect anything, but getting the shaft is a different story is all..

over the last few days I have learned more than I ever thought on the inner workings of the directory, the editors and why google no longer links to the directory from the main page.

I did well before, during and still now so Its not life or death.

What I expect is truth. I got 5 responses saying it was never added, I showed it was.

I then was told I have to many related site.. I don't

I was told XX- Proved wrong..

Why even tell me what I did if its all BS? you run out of BS then back to to we dont need to tell you anything.

The forum here could seriously be run by an autoresponse saying read the FAQ

I didnt want to start a pissing match but this is what happened I guess with responses recieved, holy crap how many times do I need to hear we dont tell you how your submission are when Im no asking that lol..

I would be interested to know why you think Google did this? .... lets see if its the same why Google said they did it for...

ctrenks, nobody shafted you. Apparently you got some free site promotion for awhile from the ODP.

And ... by the ODP standards that was something the site absolutely did not deserve. It obviously contributes nothing to the sum of human knowledge, creativity, experience, or economics.

We regret falling victim to your affiliate-doorway spam, and for inflicting same upon our users. The fact is, we're human, and we sometimes make mistakes, as anyone might have guessed without any secret insider knowledge.

And, as anyone who reviews the site can see, at least sometimes we correct those errors.

thanks for the comments, what makes every other site different in the category other than they have no unique content? an understanding of the field may be of some value.

at least I got an answer!

Ill assume you havent yet had a chance to remove the other 90% of the sites as I am looking through them right now. Seriously this is amuzing that you could state that answer and have these listed?

What a bizarre mind you have!

I'd just assume Google was telling the truth: lying is difficult, and sane people don't bother unless they think they have a very good reason. And how would Google profit by deceiving people about the reason for something they could very well have done without giving any explanation?

As to what that reason was: millions of people tweak websites every day, barely scathing (and often altogether unscathing) billions of surfers worldwide. I'd ask why you even bothered to invest scarce neurons remembering their reason, if it mattered. But I can't see how it would.

So why are all the other sites listed i the category, I havent seen a reason yet?

Going by the means those are there, I really can't see why mine would not be allowed only because it offers more useability for the users? novel concept to list the most useable sites. Interesting I got an email saying how unique mine was over the others from the editor too... I guess the end user comminity is all of no concern when dealing with such a large directory though?

'Bad' sites can get listed because of mistakes by editors, or becuase the content has changed since they were originally listed.

The most likely reason why seemingly 'Good' sites which have be suggested by the public are not listed is simply that no-one has got around to reviewing them yet. There are lots of suggestions waiting to be reviewed, and a much smaller number of volunteer editors to do the reviewing. This is especially true in categories with a high volume of spam, where there is an increased rate of suggestions, and smaller supply of volunteer editors who are both qualified and willing to work there.

I can spend months with that over the entire directory, I think ill pass and let true meaning of dmoz go forward.

I just wanted an answer, got 7 I think, none of witch are correct but at least I had a response!

To sum it up Im sure im on a site blacklist from this so there is not much of a point going forward.

General rule of thumb: Look at the content on the site, mentally blocking out all affiliate links. If the remaining information is original and valuable informational content that contributes something unique to the category's subject, the site may be a good candidate for the ODP. If the remaining content is poor, minimal, or copied from some other site, then the site is not a good candidate for the ODP.

hmm would be real nice if the FAQ had meaning.
