poppyseed,

Well a lot of things have changed since my last message /images/icons/smile.gif
I have been an editor for the past 5 weeks or so and believe-it-or-not I am now helping out by trying to get the sites listed since the re-org.

Take Care,
Dave

Interesting Thread and one that shows that the directory is not dead, nor is it moribund, but perhaps it is starving for a lack of editors. I am one of those who complain about the problems within the system, but after being refused twice for an editing position have decided not to waste more time on that endeavor.

There are problems, there are those who are working to correct them, and there are those who abuse the priveleges granted them as editors, thus it is necessary to make known problems when they exist.

There is rearranging going in on other categories besides the web designer cats, the Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Promotion category is being rearranged and edited, with some good and some not so good results. In my own category Help and Tutorials the titles and descriptions have been rewritten with less than stellar results. Most of the listings there are using the web address as the title, but there are a couple who seem to get priveleged treatment in that their title starts with the letter A (placed at the top of the listings) and is composed of keywords that differ from the web address. In my case, my site is organised by third level domains off the main domain, so that my title refers to the web address of my ecommerce site rather than the SEO tutorial the description refers to. I have written to the editor of this category to rectify this but as usual no response.

Still this is the best directory on the web and this forum is a good indication of the desire of many to make it even better.

Mel,

I just took a look at the category and agree that many of the titles are not conforming to the guidelines <img src="/images/icons/frown.gif" alt="" />

I do not edit in that area so I cannot go in and clean them up. Titles should be the name of the company/business, not the title of the page. Maybe one of the editors will wander by and read this or a senior editor will take a look and have one of the three editors listed clean-up the titles. The category is http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/Help_and_Tutorials/
