still waiting with a bunch of others. Please stop resubmitting, this just takesx your entry back to the end of the queue (when sorted by date).

And please stop submitting to other categores as well. Thanks.

It's strictly an editor choice. I've heard of editors who always religiously reviewed in submittal date order.
I never use it. The other options are better for detecting spam and performing triage (quick-reject, quick-move, full-review) on large heaps of unreviewed. And I do _lots_ of triage.

Thank you for the reply and the advice. The problem is that some of the advice you read on the internet about submissions to search engines suggest that you should submit once a month.

There was also the problem that until I found this forum I had no idea of how to find out the status of the submission

Remember: The ODP is nosearch engine but a directory. There is no automatic dropping of entries in a directory, so there is no need to resubmit.

I simply dont understand why resubmitting to a directory should help in any way. Either the site is apropriate for listing, then a time will come when it is listed. Or its not listable, then resubmitting will only annoy editors, so there wwill come a time when they stop looking at the site before deleting it.

>The problem is that some of the advice you read on the internet about submissions to search engines suggest that you should submit once a month.

Yes, that advice that was given out to people to teach them how to spam Altavista and Excite.

The result was that Altavista and Excite ceased to be usable, and disappeared as search engines.

Another result was that the new search engines (Google and Inktomi) either charged for submittals, or basically ignored duplicates.

The ODP is getting better at ignoring duplicates, and I think it will have to get still better, to avoid being buried by the legacy spammers and their spawn.

You might consider that the ODP submittal guidelines (which do NOT suggest repeating every month) created by the people who want to list websites, are more likely to be in your best interest than the obsolete advice of malicious spammers.

The problem of over submitting or annoying Editors was a concern I had and it was a question that I did ask through one of the feedback forms that I found on an ODP page.

But also the "This catergory needs an Editor" raised a question in my mind as to how or when the site would be reviwed and how I would know if the site was rejected or just not reviwed due to the need for an Editor.

Finding the forum has answered those questions, but I did find the forum by accident, had I found it sooner I would have been a lot wiser a lot earlier in my quest to be listed in ODP

Keep in mind that this is not official ODP forum but one run by some editors for the public. And before you ask: Yes, thats a difference

The above mentioned site is under review in the local category:
Regional/Middle_East/Cyprus/Localities/Paphos/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate.

I know that patience is a virtue and that the editors are busy and do their best to clear the work loads. But I am puzzled.

On Excite I found a search result listing my site which appears to have come from ODP in that it had the format of ODP results and showed the name of an ODP editor for the category.

But in the ODP directory, my site does not appear to be listed. Excite lists ODP at the bottom of it’s search result page, so why the apparent difference in search results between ODP and Excite?

Your site once was listed, until an editor discovered it was listed in the wrong category. Real estate agents are only listed in the locality where their office is.

So it was moved to a new home. The editor who did this had no editing-permission at the target catregory, so he could not publish it at the new place. Right now it is waiting in Regional/Middle_East/Cyprus/Localities/Paphos/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate for an editor to recheck and publish it.

Sorry to bother you. Is it possible to find out some idea of where this review has got to in terms of being reviewed as it is now some 6 weeks later than the last query.

To save requirung and wasting peoples time to answer such queries, is it practical from your point of view to have a provision where you could enter a domain name and be told that you are now Nth on the list? We could then at least get some idea of how quickly we are moving up the queue.

Problem is, that wouldn't give any indication about the time to list We tell people here not to resubmit once the submission has been received in a fitting cat because it only erases the previous submission. That is detrimental if an editor decides to process unrevs in date submitted order. But there's no prescribed order for that. Only thing that would be decidedly unethical for us would be to give priority to a submission because the person who made it asked for a favor - that's why asking here about the status of a site cannot serve to shorten the time-to-list...

[added: FYI, it's now right in the middle of the queue when it's sorted by submission date...]

Hello, is there any news on the submission of this site, is it still in the queue?

Thank you

The site was deleted from submissions. Not listed. You may submit again. This time, go directly to Paphos real estate; that will save time.

That information was wrong. (Our logs look a bit confusing, as several submissions used to be shuffled around from one category to another.) A submission of your site was still waiting for review in Regional: Middle East: Cyprus: Localities: Paphos: Business and Economy: Real Estate, where it got overwritten by your new submission to that category of today.

Feel free to ask for a status update after a month or two.

Yours,
Robert
