status http://www.heavenlytreasures.com

submitted to shopping/jewelry over a year ago (must be jammed), and more recently (I think at least 4-5 months ago) to
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/New_Jersey/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/ (& maybe /jewelry - cant remember) - I would never think that category is backed up.
I applied a few weeks ago to become an editor for the 2nd category since I figured I probably wouldn't have too much time going through listings w that category but I havent heard back. I really wouldn't mind helping out.

Since your site is of no regional interest it was moved on to Shopping/Jewelry which hrm... is a bit crowded and has far more than 1000 entries waiting to be processed.

can you suggest an alternate category for me to submit, why isnt the regional one for me - I'm located in New Jersey?

Resubmit to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/New_Jersey/Localities/A/Allenhurst/Business_and_Economy since your other submission was moved. You might want to put a pointer to this thread in your submission.

Alternately, if you want to try your hand at editing, you may want to apply to edit the Allenhurst category using your site as one of your application URLs. Just make sure you read over the guidelines with regards to how to title and describe sites, find a couple of additional Allenhurst sites, and submit your app. It's a small enough category that you might be accepted into it as a new editor, provided your application is well done.

That is incorrect. The Guidelines haven't changed.

If you had a physical store front, you would qualify for a listing in a Regional (i.e. By Location) category. As you do not, then your listing will be in the Topical (i.e. By Subject) branch somewhere.

Your listing has been moved to Shopping/Jewelry, but as there over are a thousand sites awaiting review it will be many months before that lot can be worked through. The only thing you can do is be patient, and see that it gets reviewed eventually. We do not treat this forum as an opportunity to 'jump the queue', so your site will wait in turn. Please do not resubmit, as that will push your entry to the back of the queue each time. Please don't try other categories, as the editor there will simply move the entry over to the end of the existing queue where the original submission now resides. Editors generally don't like the Shopping categories as they are rampant with spam and inappropriate submissions.

Feel free to apply to be an editor in the Regional category that you mentioned. Mention this thread in your application [ http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=status&Number=8842 ].

But I do have a physical storefront in Allenhurst, NJ (retail store on main street - only small % of my business). If I write a word about it will that make the difference. If so, should I resubmit again (lol) to the category we spoke of or leave it?

If that store-front is the same business then you should have a page on your site that gives details of this place... opening hours, address, telephone number (maybe even a few pictures?). We can only go by what it says on your web site. If you have a physical location but you don't tell anyone about it, then we are unlikely to find it 'by chance'. If you include the details of it on your site, then it is fairly easy to verify that you really are at that location, from other directories, municipal records, business listings, or even an editor who lives or works there simply driving by and having a look.

Editors are everywhere. I recently discovered that there are at least three others within 20km of where I live.

I apologize for giving incorrect information. I guess I really do not know what I am talking about. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: status http://www.heavenlytreasures.com/

Are you kidding! You guys were by far the best help, you actually discussed & answered my posts. I've been waiting over a year not knowing anything about my listing & I'm so happy to find this forum.

On a side note, I worked on the editor application for literally one hour today (making sure it was good) & no joke - right before I was going to submit, my computer went into dump mode (NT freeze) - I guess when I have the time I'll try again.

I have resubmitted my site listing (www.heavenlytreasures.com) to:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/New_Jersey/Localities/A/Allenhurst/Business_and_Economy/

Thanks again!

The directory is vast, over 3 850 000 sites spread through 460 000 categories. It is nearly impossible for anyone to know all of the little rules that apply in all of the places, what is good in a Hobbyist category, may not be right for Shopping, and vice versa. There are many placement discussions, rather like this one, all of the time in the editor only internal forums. This sort of discussion can sometimes look a little confused, or like people don't quite know what is going on, but I think that it has been a good demonstration of one overriding principle of the ODP - that the directory works to decisions arrived at by Editor Consensus. A lot of the major decisions are laid down in (fairly hard) tablets of stone, so that new editors don't keep bringing up old subjects that have already been discussed to death for years; but the rest is discussed and modified, with experience, on a regular basis.
