There has been no change in status: it's still awaiting review. The length of the queue isn't really an issue, since the pool of submissions isn't a queue: editors can review the sites in any order they wish.

Remember, the forum rules have changed, so your next status request needs to be after December 2.

There are only 10 entries in the section that I am trying to get into, I assume that there are hardly any trying to get in - maybe you can confirm??? How many are awaiting review for this catagory????

I could understand a big wait in a heavily sought section, but why here????

I know that there's no reviewer and that the section has to wait for a parent level reviewer to take on the job but why doesn't this catagory have a reviewer???

I applied as there was no reviewer and was declined - I assume as I didn't have the relevant experience. Surely somebody willing to give his time freely is better than nobody. I admit that I'm not an "expert" but I do have some experience and surely thats better than nothing?

We no longer share that information because it is meaningless. Sites awaiting review in small submission pools have no inherant advantage or disadvantage over sites awaiting review in large submission pools.

It does. Every editor in a direct line up the tree can edit there, as can the more than 200 editors with directory-wide editing permissions. Think about this, there are more than half a million categories and about 10,000 active editors.

Any Update???

Greetings,

I know I could have requested an update on the 2nd Dec but I thought I'd be patient and let it run a little longer. Anyhow, it's now 8 months since my last request, surely SOMEBODY has reviewed submissions for this tiny section by now!!!

Grateful for any update that you can provide.

Thanks

Not trying to be funny or anything (honestly!), but over a year for such a small site on a small category, surely SOMEBODY must have had a chance to look at it by now!

Can't somebody give my ANY indication as to how long this could take? Would I be better submitting it to a new category in the hope that the reviewers there are more active???

Sorry, but that's not how the process works. Thousands of editors have had a chance to look at it. As it happened, they chose to look at a million other sites instead. (And that's OK with everybody.) The two or three million sites editors could look at today -- includes this one. Which thousands of those will be reviewed today? Who knows?

The most active editors are precisely those who can edit almost anywhere, so ... there's especially little point in submitting to another category, in hopes that some editor may come along in only a few months and .... move it to the right category, where it can start waiting for a review again.

Ok peeps, thanks for that. Guess I'm just gonna have to sit and wait and bide my time. So difficult to motivate yourself to carry on and expand and improve the site if at the end of the day it gets rejected for some reason and nobodies gonna get to see it! Still, suppose its all good experience!

Thanks again for your time :)

I understand what you are feelling, and the relevant frustrations.

Perhaps it will ease the pain if you simply forget us. The site will be either listed, or it will not be. There is really not a lot you can do about either.

Spend those wonderful energies making sure that the site provides visitors with a lot of useful, unique content, then this year, nor next decade, whenever an ODP editor does visit they can't help by being impressed by what you have built.

At a different level, doing this is also a greatlisting strategy. In the area of directoreis and guides there are two approaches you can take: try to be better than the worst, hope you get in, and then constantly worry about staying in. Or, try to be the best of the best, andhave everyone else chasing you and losing sleep.

Good luck in either event.

There have been several threads here where an editor has said they noticed a new suggestion received while they were editing a category.

In those cases the time was under ten minutes. That must be close to the record.

My record is around six minutes, others have been faster. However, due to changes in the way suggestions are processed, it's unlikely that you can expect to see this speed anymore. Within a day or two is however is still quite normal.

Within the last week I have processed the following within two days - note that the actual number of published sites is small due to dealing with spam or incorrectly submitted items
I found (never submiited) - 3
Published - 3
Moved - submitted to the wrong category - 7
Deleted - already listed/spam - 11
Duplicate - already waiting to be reviewed - 2
Totally mispelled URL - unable to identify DELETED 2
Update refused 1
Update accepted 1

During the same period I have processe a lot of other sites, ranging from a few suggested in 2003 to some suggested a month ago.

Thanks.....

I have to say that I trawl these pages every now and again and it seems that its the same people who (generally) crop up over and over.

I'm sure that there are other reviewers just as busy but its nice that some of you also take the time to keep us updated and answer the queries.....

I think that what you are doing is probably a thankless task, but I appreciate your time....
