Re: site submission status question

Not having an editor named specifically there doesn't mean no editor. Anyone named in a category above it in the tree can edit there, as well as dozens who can edit anywhere in the directory.

Suggesting a site for the wrong category doesn't speed things up, it slows them down. First the suggestion waits in the wrong category, then it gets moved to the correct category to wait again.

Your suggestion of August 17 awaits review in the category to which it was submitted, along with a very small number of others. If you haven't seen it listed in a month (from now) feel free to ask about it again. If you do so, please reuse this thread rather than starting a new one.

Re: site submission status question

Hello,

Now it has been over 2 months since I submitted the site. Any idea when it might show up in this category?

Thanks

Re: site submission status question

Hi,

I submitted my website: The Amazing Brownie Company (http://www.amazingbrownies.com) to the open directory on or about 8/17/2003
the directory location is: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Food/Baked_Goods/Cookies_and_Bars/Brownies/

The category does not have an editor and you recommended that if the site has not been listed in a month to ask again regarding the status.

Thanks for any help you might offer.

Re: site submission status question

Unfortunately, there isn't anything new to report about your listing in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Food/Baked_Goods/Cookies_and_Bars/Brownies/ :(

I would recommend adding your contact information (business location/mailing address) in order to be eligible for a Regional listing. I assume you are somewhere in a Florida Locality. This second suggestion would not affect the first, and you may eventually be listed in both. http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/ Of course, you would select the one your business physically resides in.

This information also looks good to actual customers. It makes your business seem more trustworthy.

Re: site submission status question

http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Food/Baked_Goods/Cookies_and_Bars/ could use an editor, maybe you might be interested in applying to one of the subcategories (and work your way up)? You would be expected to be unbiased and treat all sites equally, including competitors. If you do choose to apply, be sure to mention that you are affiliated with one of the sites, and you do need to go find 3 other urls appropriate to whichever category you apply for. Good Luck if you do!

Brownies - yum!

I also submitted the site to: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/O/Orlando/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Food/

This category does not have an editor either. I have volunteered to be an editor but I was rejected.

Any suggestions?

As per the forum guidelines you must wait at least one month between status checks.

Start out by applying for a smaller sub-cat or non-related category within http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Florida/Localities/O/Orlando/

Business/Shopping sub-cats are not generally recommended for new editors. Gain some experience and move over to Shopping or up to all of Orlando! :)

BTW, there are 9 Florida editors able to edit within Orlando, and many more editalls and metas higher up.

I have volunteered 3 times to be an editor only to be rejected. The most recent application was for the smallest category that I could find, only to be told that I need to find a smaller category. Any suggestions???

I know you guys need help and I am perfectly willing to do my share.

the directory location is: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Food/B..._Bars/Brownies/

This directory does not have an editor. Will it ever get seen by an editor, or do we have to wait until this area gets an editor? Any idea of how long it might take to have this submission reviewed?

I also submitted the site to: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer.../Shopping/Food/

This category does not have an editor either.

Any suggestions?

I have volunteered 4 times to be an editor only to be rejected. I have been following all the advice on how to get accepted as an editor. It is a very time consuming process and very frustrating to be rejected. So I have pretty much given up on the idea of being an editor.

I know you guys need help and I am perfectly willing to do my share.

Sorry, I did not see that part of the response. I was using the old area which did not allow me to reply, so I thought I had to start a new thread.

I did read the area you suggested, I just wonder how long it could take for someone to edit the site? Might it take years? Are sites put in a que for review on a first come first edited basis?

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Sincerely,

Anthony Edwards

Sorry, please ignore my previous post, it makes no sense.

But here are some thought for you. You said:

It is a very time consuming process

Yes it is, and in fact so is being an editor. So we have a problem that we really don't have enough editors. Lots of applicants, but not enough make it through. And of those who make it, not everyone wants to spend hours of their time doing this job.

This category does not have an editor either.

You seem to be a bit stuck on this.

Some editors apply for a small category, and just work there, and for those people we are very thankfull, if we had enouogh, then each category would have it's own editor, keeping on top of things.

But we also have editors who take on many categories, and do thousands of edits, and we also have many unnamed editors who can edit all over the place. So there are always many people who can edit "your" category that has no editor. And in fact, there are about 12 named editors, in the categories above brownies.

For more detailed information

But alas, there are so many categories and not enough time. So even though many can work on the brownies, I guess nobody really wants to right now. And if nobody gets to the bronwies for a couple of years, then you may wait that long. But since life is unpredicatable, any existing editor, or a new one, can suddenly appear, and overnight your site could be listed.

No, no such queue exists. Sites are put in a pool of sites; each category has its own pool and an editor can choose to edit them in any order s/he wishes.
