Would that delay the review or keep it from being listed?

Not necessarily. It's waiting in a queue of less than forty sites.

Your site hasn't been touched yet, it's waiting in the queue with about 20 other sites.

The fact that there's no editor in this category doesn't prevent your site from being listed. Any editor of a parent category can edit in here, as well as editalls and metas. You just have to be patient.

<edited to add>I just deleted about 20 spam submissions, that's why apeuro said 40 sites in the queue and I 20.</edited to add>

Nothing else I can do but be patient! Thank you for your reply with this matter. I did some reading about submitting to DMOS "after" I had already submitted. Hope the editor has the heart to review and not skip my request. I think that I should have read about it first than made a better request. I didn't want to post my request again too soon after the first time.

What exactly is your problem?
It may be possible to fix things if you think you made a mistake somewhere.

Well, on another forum one of your editors gave a great example of what someone should NOT do when posting a request. Here was a comment he made: "Don't hype!!!. Hype is not allowed in listings, especially business listings. Totally forget about using words like "best", "biggest", "widest selection" etc. I spend more time removing hype from descriptions than any other single thing - and if I am feeling tired or lazy, it simply does not get done". I think when I listed (before reading this comment) I might have done that in my submission. Don't want somebody reading my submission to forget me or get too tired to "help". I am waiting patiently and hope I will have someone who is kind and take pitty on me!

An editor reviewing your site will make sure that the title and description are hype-free before listing (or they should). So, don't worry too much about that. It would be nice if the submitted title and description were already nice and guidelines-compliant (it would make it easier and faster to review which translates to a faster listing time) but it's not a requirement for listing.

If you want, you can resubmit your site with a better description. As far as I know, this will erase your previous submission and replace it with the new one (provided you use exactly the same URL and submit in the exact same category).

A great read for you if you're going to do that is http://dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html - it provides all the information you need to know about making a great submission to the ODP.

I was going to do something along that line except I didn't want to push my submission back any further that it already is as it stands. I have been working on getting my site listed for a while (not necessarily just here) so I didn't want to make things worse. Would it be better to wait until it does get listed and then submit a change request? Thank you for the info, I will read up on this some more!

Well, there won't be any reason to change the description once the site gets listed - the editor reviewing the site will end up writing the description him/herself.

Resubmitting *would* push you back to the end of the queue, but there are only about 20 other links in the queue and it's likely that if an editor comes in to review the sites there, he or she will most likely do them all in a relatively short period of time.

However, there's no telling how an editor will approach the queue - they can sort it in a number of ways, and depending on that sort, the position of your site in the queue changes. Not all editors review sites submitted by date.

Okay, I read the info in the link you provided and will resubmit. I'm just a tad bit nervous about doing this but I will give it a try. I just hope it doesn't put several more weeks on my submission. I am patient but one can only hold out for so long . Would be my luck I get someone in a bad mood and my submission pushes them over the edge

You're almost at the end of the queue anyway, so resubmitting will not really make a difference.

Your description didn't look 'hyped' to me, you just used 1st person (We offer...) which will not be accepted that way. But this is something the editor will change, and it will not prevent your site from being listed if the content is OK.

Well, just to save the editor some time, I resubmitted our site anyway . Took out the 1st person problem and think I did better with help from the link provided above. Thanks again for all the help!

Just wanted to let you know that your site is in the queue, with the new description. Now you'll need to be patient.

How long would it take for my site to get listed after an editor has reviewed it? Not in a hurry, just noticed that my site was visited by an editor about 10 days or so ago.

There has been no action on your site so far. It might not have been an editor visiting your site, we have a number of automatic processes that occasionally check on sites. Anyone reading this thread and wanting to know what your submission looked like could easily have triggered one.

That's one of our URLs, but it's broken, I get an error when I click on it. It may be that that some changes were made to the structure of that area that triggered an automatic search. Of course it might have been an editor, but if it was they decided not to do anything with your site.

About 10 days ago? That's when you posted your initial request in this forum, so it might just have been an editor (like me) who had a look at your site while checking its status.
