Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

From what I can see, that editor is no longer editing that category, and has not for some time. ODP does not always update the category information to remove an editor name.

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

You guys probably dont like us anymore, but I'll post this anyhow as this explains the basis of my initial complaint... I hope all this doesnt slow down our addition (or imminent rejection) to the directory...

quoted word for word from Dmoz's editor guidelines

We work hard to make the ODP a fair and impartial resource for Web users. The ODP is not to be used as a way to advertise or unfairly promote websites. Editors who are primarily interested in promoting their own or clients' sites, and/or discriminating against their competitors' by manipulating site listings may have their editor accounts revoked without notice.

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

You will notice that someone already said "And the category to which you submitted the site has no editor". Therefore the actions of the editor you mentioned are meaningless to your situation. Note: I've removed the editor details from your post as they are inappropriate. Had there been an editor for that category and you suspected abuse, the correct thing to do would be to file an abuse report through the Public Abuse Reporting System, not post the details here. However, in this case, there is nothing to report as there is no editor there.

[editor details removed - motsa]

I'm alittle confused at this point. If you look up the editor in questions profile you will notice the only category he EDITS is "Computers: Internet: Access Providers: Directories (15)" . Interestingly enough this is the same category we have applied to...

Also
And the category to which you submitted the site has no editor

Are you now telling me that since this category which as you say has no editor (even though i just posted a link showing otherwise) then how will our site ever be reviewed, as there is no editor to review it??

plus someone else wrote
I can edit all categories, but I don't know yours well, so I'll pass on it
. Are we to sit around and wait till eternity for some editor (with no knowledge regarding this category) to take a random stroll into it (when he/she has no interest) and review our submission, since this category has
the category to which you submitted the site has no editor
?

Re: Alleged conflict of interest

You are looking at old data, the publicly viewable pages have not updated recently. See at the bottom of each page the date last updated.

In addition to that, we have a minor bug which sometimes leaves an editor name on a category he or she no longer edits.

The editor you refer to, who incidentally has never reviewed your site, is no longer editing in that category and hasn't been for months.

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

I can fully understand your confusion. However, you are looking at the public view of ODP, which is currently displaying somewhat outdated information. This is due to very major hardware changes going on at ODP over the last few weeks.

If you look around this forum, you will see many references to some of the annoyances caused by these changes. In the long run, it will make for a faster better system for all.

If I go and look at the public view of ODP that you see and look at my editor profile, it does not show all the categories for which I am currently an editor. When the server upgrades are complete, it will show them correctly. Likewise, in the category you are interested in, it will then show there is no editor.

Based on your estimated date of original submission, I believe there was no editor for this category at the time of submission, and you are just waiting ln the same position as everyone else.

When I joined ODP, I had a site that was waiting in submission for several months. It was several months more before it was entered into the system - I waited just like other submitters. Three months is not that long.

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

That answer certaintly dispells some of the confusion, thank you bobrat & brmehlman! However can I rest assured that someone WILL review the site in the future? And is there a current editor for this category (and who is he/she :p)

Thanks again!

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

ISPRank,

First, nothing you say here will effect your ability to get a listing either positively or negatively. We add sites based on the content of the site and the needs of the directory, not the conduct of the owner (positive or negative.)

Second, I'd like to acknowlege your complaint. It's possible that the old editor wasn't doing a great job and that's why they are not an editor there anymore.

Now on to the bulk of your concern. There are two editors listed in the category directly above the one you submitted to. That's great news! It means that there are two people who take an active interest in that general subject, and have the permissions necessary to edit in that category.

The system works, sometimes it works slowly, but it works. Thanks for your concern and helping to keep us on our toes.

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

I'd like to point out that the actual public page for that category shows no editor listed and by the date at the bottom of the page, hasn't had one since March 2003. That means that when you submitted your site, there was no editor listed in that category and thus no competitor preventing you from being listed. I presume you were looking at the very outdated Google copy of the directory when you saw an editor listed.

However can I rest assured that someone will review the site in the future? And is there a current editor for this category (and who is he/she )
If there was a "current editor" in that category, then they would be showing up as the listed editor at the bottom of that category where it currently says "Volunteer to edit this category". However, editors of categories above it and all editall+ editors can edit that category -- someone will come along eventually to review the sites in that category. You just need to be more patient than you have been. It's tough, I know, but it's all you can do.

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

Going on 5 months now and still no update. Can someone please please take a look at our request to submit www.isprank.com for inclusion in the DMOZ directory? Please if any editor has a spare moment, please take a look at our site.

Thank you,
Ryan

As stated in the forum guidelines, we NEVER start reviewing a site after a posting in here.

Re: CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!

If you haven't seen it listed within a few months, feel free to ask again.

Origional post was 3 months ago, around 4 months after first submitting. At this rate can someone please tell us if we are EVER going to be reviewed for submission? Is DMOZ's directory even moderated anymore? 7 months ago we submitted several other sites (non related to isprank.com) and still have not seen their listings... Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help speed the process (now going into 8 months since first submission).

Thank you again,
Ryan

Re: http://www.isprank.com

Thats not a answer to my question. [please refrain from comments on editors]

Moderator's note: isprank, this section of the forum is dedicated to submission status requests. "No change" is a possible answer, and no further reasons should be given. Live with it. You can ask again in about a month, reusing this thread. Please note that further insulting comments, whereas having no effect on your site listing, will affect your posting privileges in this Forum. Thanks for your understanding

As the answer to your question has been given already in this thread, I imagine no one felt a need to repeat it. Please re-read the whole thread. :flower:

Re: http://www.isprank.com

Moderator et al: "No change" is about as informative of an answer as "the sky is blue". If there was a change in the submission status of our site, we would not be asking why there is no change with it!

It has been over half a year since isprank.com was originally submitted to dmoz. Does it normally take this long for a site to become listed with DMOZ? If so, why is the process so slow? If not, why are we being treated differently?

"No change" is a very informative answer. Your site could have been
a) rejected
b) moved to another category pending review
c) listed in another category
All these would be changes in the submission status which you wouldn't notice if we didn't inform you about (which is the meaning of this Forum and should be the purpose of your question, if you take the time to read the TOS).

Again, there's no change in your site's submission status, meaning that the site is still pending review. That's all what you need to know, all what we can tell you, and there's nothing you can do to speed up the review process. You can come back in a month to ask whether there is a change in the status. Period.

>> Does it normally take this long for a site to become listed with DMOZ?

Yes, if the category has a lot of submissions. In some categories there are sites sitting in the unreviewed queue since way more than half a year.

>> If so, why is the process so slow?

Because we get a lot of submissions, lots of them are spam, and we take our time to review all submissions thoroughly.

>> If not, why are we being treated differently?

You are not treated differently.

It's been reviewed and rejected.

Have you tried to use your site's search function to get _meaningful_ results?
