What's going on with you people?
We are all busy editing, to the extent we feel comfortable with. For some that may be one site a month, for other is may be hundreds in a day.

[Sigh] - why is it not right? We make no promises to list any site ever, and any site that is suggested - we make no promises as to when it will be reviewed.

At this point no one had reviewed and either accepted your site or rejected it.

Sorry, but you're just flat wrong.

You don't know why that site was listed there -- all you can know is that it belongs there.

And if that is true, than it is always right for any editor to list it there anytime.

But, since we're all volunteers, it's also always right for any editor to NOT review any site, anytime. For instance, I am not reviewing either site at this moment. And there is no conceivable ethical system in which my current inaction in this matter is wrong.

thanks for nothing

volunteers or not, it's starting to look like an abuse of power. You volunteer editors seem to really enjoy posting lengthy replies back in these forums, for the same energy you could list more sites.

Secondly, for those who volunteer and list one site a month. Shame on you, quit and go away. There are plenty of other volunteers that would be glad to be an editor of their catagory and do a better job than many of you have been doing. I am one for sure. I applied, but was turned down unjustly.

I have asked nicely and frankly I see an abuse of power here by many editors. I'm calling AOL's corporate office. And I will be posting in all the webmaster forums my experience with this DMOZ.

Many of you have really turned into a bunch of elitists, and I am just sick of this. I'm sure I am not the only one.

Thanks for nothing.

Been there, done that. Even started an anti-dmoz forum. Trust me its not all its cracked up to be.
Good luck with the phone call though. If it makes you feel any better I continually check to try and prove some sort of dmoz-google lovefest conspiracy yet can find none.

Its just a link. Submit it, forget it, hope to get it.

You still don't get it.

I could go away from this forum and not post for months, and it would not help you one bit, because I simply do not have the authorization to edit in the category that you want to see you site listed in.

And even if I did, I can choose how to spend my time. If I want to post here, I get to do that. If you wish to have more control over your site listing and how editors work, then go to a paying service, where you can get to demand what you want.

I'm not sure what you think gets achieved by getting rid of the "lazy" editors who edit one site a month. It's thousands of editors doing that that build the directory. Replacing them with second class editors who cannot meet the minimum requirements of editing, and were previoulsy refused, gets us to build a directory with many more listings and of low quality.

But it's a myth anywhay, these so called editors dying to get in are for the most part, IMO, webmasters dying to get in to list their sites, and after it gets listed - we will be lucky if they do one edit a month.

Anyway - go ahead and call AOL

Just remember that when you suggested your site you agreed to the ODP terms which include

Please recognize that making the ODP a useful resource requires us to exercise broad editorial discretion in determining the content and structure of the directory. That discretion extends (but is not limited) to what sites to include, where in the directory sites are placed, whether and when to include more than one link to a site, when deep linking is appropriate, and the content of the title and description of the site. In addition, a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time at our sole discretion. You should not rely on any aspect of a site's inclusion in the directory. Please understand that an editor's exercise of discretion may not always treat all submissions equally. You may not always agree with our choices, but we hope you recognize that we do our best to make fair and reasonable decisions.

http://www.dmoz.org/termsofuse.html

We may edit, move, or delete any content on the ODP (including content that you have provided) or terminate all or part of the ODP without notice or liability for any reason at our sole discretion. You acknowledge that Netscape and the ODP staff have unfettered editorial discretion to determine the structure and content of the ODP and that, because a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time, you may not rely on any aspect of a site's inclusion in the directory. You agree to waive any claim related to the inclusion, placement, exclusion, or removal of any site in the ODP or to the title or description of any site appearing in the ODP.

You will indemnify Netscape, and its subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, agents, and employees against any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, related in any way to your use of or conduct on the ODP.
