I don't blame non-editors for not understanding the ODP. But if you don't understand the meaning of something you've seen written somewhere, then you really shouldn't be paraphrasing it to pass on to someone else.

When someone takes something that was written in one place and rewords it (incorrectly) and reposts it somewhere else, that falls under the definition of "twisting" which is "to alter or distort the intended meaning of". There was no negative connotation intended in my use of the word -- in fact, I've rarely ever used it in the manner that you are thinking of it. I speak directly but I am rarely ever intentionally rude in a forum...even more rarely in this forum.

In the same way that posters need to think about what they write, readers need to think about what they're reading and try not to colour it with their own expectations. I've seen people take umbrage at posts that were positively benign, because they read a "tone" where there was none. And I've known people to not see an insult that was (in my eyes) fairly blatant.
