Fair enough, and thanks.
There is an awful lot of crap written about DMOZ Editors, so I'll tell you what I'll do, if you want a UK Editor on Financial Services/Mortgages etc I'll do it. I would prefer to be invited, if that is possible?
Kind regards to you all David

I'm sorry, but that isn't possible - to become an editor you must go through the application process. You don't primarily have to show that you know the subject area you are applying for, though naturally it's a good thing if you do; what the meta editors need to see is that you understand and follow the editor guidelines.

There is some advice and pointers for aspiring editors in the FAQ for the "Becoming an Editor" forum.

Thanks for the offer.

I'd point out that, with over 300 listings, UK/../Mortgages is way too large for a trainee editor.

To learn the basics of the editing craft, I suggest you request either one of its letter categories or something else of up to around 50 or so listings. Once you can show that you've learned the ropes, you can apply for more :)

I would agree under normal circumstances, but I am no normal guy, I know my subject and I would do a good job.

I'm sure that's all true, but you are not yet a trained ODP editor.

An application to edit the entire category is very unlikely to be accepted. Trust me on this.

I'm just trying to save you some time and some frustration, not to insult your technical financial services knowledge :) .

Do you have an existing editor for that subject? If so, I help out.

Other than requests to be invited and offers of help within this unofficial forum, I can detect no application to be an editor from you. There isn't one in the pool awaiting evaluation and neither has one been declined.

If you formally applied by using the standard form, the system sent an email confirmation message to you. Only when it receives a reply does the application become visible to us humans. If it doesn't receive one, the system eventually eats it. You are presumably aware of this since you will by now have read all the guidance notes that we already mentioned to you above.

If you didn't formally apply, it's not going to happen. There's only one way to create an editor account and the associated linkages and access permissions that go with it and that's by a meta editor processing an application form and accepting it.

Incidentally, opaque posts such as See post 24 are less than helpful.

Hi Jim, I have applied, and I'll just sit and wait, I had an e-mail back stating application received. And re see 24, sorry, but I had posted to say that I had applied, and I read an awful lot of cbp's replies in forums!

CTABUK - I know the FSA are looking at Mortgage related websites, they have looked at ours and made one request that we change the word redemption to repayment. It's going to take them time to get round them all, but until they do, and take any action against those that are deliberately flouting the rules there is not much we can do.

On another track, pick up any Yellow pages published since November last year or any local newspaper, you will see that the majority of advertisers, especially those dealing in the adverse market are breaking the law by either not mentioning typical APR's or the wealth warning...or not mentioning fees. As a side note going by the FSA guidelines it not possible to advertise in yearly publications for bad credit mortgages as the APR given has to be relevant and so any change in the interest rate will during the year will render the advert out of date.

I share your frustrations at not being on a level playing field with company's that either have not or will not make their advertising compliant but ultimately it is the FSA's responsibility to bring these people into line.

Well thanks for that, the guy I'm dealing with is ok david.rundell@fsa.gov.uk

If you e-mail me at ctabuk@gmail.com I'll tell what else I'm up to in the way of a forum. See DMOZ, I did not post the URL lol
I applied under the name David Castle not ctabuk, but thank you for looking it up.

You couldn't have used David Castle as an editorname. On any type of search I'm still only seeing that application from last Sept., but nothing more recent.

Well, if it's not to be, actually reading the public assassination of one of your Editors over in WPW, makes me wonder if it's really worth the hassle. I have my own forum, and it does not have a DMOZ page, and I won't allow the subject to get out of hand.

Neither donaldb nor I can find an oustanding application to be an editor from you. There's just the one last year which Donald already mentioned was declined.

I can also tell you that there are no outstanding applications to become an editor within Regional/Europe/UK.

If you'd like to start a new thread in Becoming an Editor, when the two weeks from making an application have elapsed, and giving the details required in its Forum Guidelines somebody will be pleased to help.

Meanwhile, this thread has drifted seriously off topic and I'm closing it.
