That's a rather broad and extremely insulting statement.

I personally take great pride in the work I do at ODP and, having seen the process from the inside, can tell you that you are way out of line.

Of the suggestions that I receive from the public, perhaps 1% are listable under ODP guidelines. The rest have been sent to the wrong category, have unacceptable content, are under construction, or are link farms to even more unacceptable sites.

I spend hours reviewing these suggestions, sending them on to a proper category or putting them aside in hopes that they will someday be completed. Then, I go searching for something I can actually use.

The fact that you cannot see activity from the outside does not mean we are sitting around twiddling our thumbs waiting for some web genius to deliver the PERFECT SITE.

>Anyhow,as your unpaid volunteers it's unfair to expect much.

The kicker is, people who volunteered to do something other than what you want done.

I am not an editor, but I am very taken aback by such a statement.

I wouldn't suggest making that statement around a volunteer fire department, the Red Cross, scouting organizations, military, senior centers, or a plethora of other organizations that survive by volunteerism. I don't think they'll agree with your sentiment.

The fact someone is a volunteer does not mitigate their pride, professionalism or commitment; I would argue that it is much the opposite.

It's a matter of attitude -- some people measure everyone's worth by their income, other people measure people's worth by their output. I do my best to take the latter approach, flawed as it is.

As an aside, it's been suggested (by me, so, I'm not releasing internal information) that editors be able to mark certain categories as inactive, so it will be so marked on the public pages, and the "volunteer to edit this category" link might be more prominent.
