This forum's subtitle is Forum for discussions about the process of suggesting a site for inclusion. General discussion only, no mention of specific sites here please.
Would anybody give mee an answer please?
I hope not because you're asking for a status report and we won't give those any more.

A general answer is that websites are added to, removed from and moved within our directory all the time. Maybe yours is being moved or maybe it was removed because it was down for some time.

By all means suggest your website just once to an appropriate category and an editor will look at it. We can't predict when that might be.

Sorry I misplaced my question.

The site has been listed for some time.
I would like to know why it is not listet any more?
Who removed it and why?
Where can I ask this question?

Kind regards

We don´t discuss editing of specific sites here.

If you suspect abuse of the directory you can file an abuse report here.

May I ask what will happen after report have been submitted?
I can see it has been resolved, but not if I am back on the "list"

In general, an abuse report is handled by meta editors - often several - who examine the report, look for confirmatory evidence, come to a rational conclusion and take appropriate action.

In this case, there was no evidence of abuse.

If your website has changed significantly since last year, by all means re-suggest it.

Sorry to say so but....

I really have no understanding for being removed from the DMOZ Diretory!

Since my site has been accepted in the directory it has only grown bigger and more relevant material has been added.
I have added my own forum/portal etc.

Nothing illegal stuff is to be found, design have been changed a little.
I have pagerank 4 and is placed VERY nice in google when relevant searchterms is used.

Maybe the reason is that I have added google adsense. If so it makes no sense.
Google Adsense placed on the right website gives the users more content and is relevant because it matches their searchterms.

However, I will never find out WHY my website was removed from DMOZ.
This because the Directory works the way it does.
Everything is closed and NO info is given. This actually is a problem and I hope that my old friend, Google realizes this in the near future.

Well, I know I can resuggest my site once more and I certainly will.
But I feel that I am wasting my time on something which has no logic at all.

Again, sorry to say so.

Kind regards
Stokerpiller

Threads merged.

The 'Open' in our name refers to the fact that the fruits of our labours are made freely available. It doesn't mean that all of our inner decision making processes are laid bare for all to see. How would you react if one of your suppliers demanded free access to all of your records :)?

I do not want You to:

And it is not the case at all! But I would like to know the reason off decisions made that regards ME only.
Also I would like to know the Reason for removing relevant info from Your Directory?

You cant hide by using the word "Freely"

I also would ask You to unmerge this question. It is relevant and it is an ODP issue.

Kind regards

No. Since it all ultimately comes down to you asking about your site, it's appropriate that all of the posts be confined to this one thread.

Well, then I just have to wait for an answer to my question...

Site suggestions get listed and remain listed at our sole discretion. No site has a right to be listed.

If a site is removed from the Directory, there's usually a very good, legitimate reason for it, and as we are not a listing service for site owners, we're under no obligation to give any reasons to the site owner.

We serve web surfers looking for specific information, and if (in our opinion), a site no longer adds value to a category, (as it may have when it was first listed), it is our obligation to remove it, just as it is our obligation to only add new sites that add value to a category.

Those decisions are private, proprietary and fall under the code of confidentiality that all editors are required to follow.

You've already been told that we don't discuss specific sites here. So you're not going to get a specific answer to the question of why your site has been removed.

Thanks for Your reply.

I will not get closer to the understanding of DMOZ and maybe I am not supposed to.
I am aware that the reason for DMOZ being a "Closed Contry" is that You don't want to give information which can be abused by submitters.

However, when You get thrown out of a Pub You should know why.
This gives You the opportunity to improve Yorselves.

This opportunity is not given by DMOZ and that is excactly what I mean is an ODP issue.

But, we will not come any closer to anything and therefore there is no reason to disguss further.

I have suggestet my site to another categori. If it don't get accepted, so be it.
Then I just have to get by, by being ag Genius :)

Excellent attitude, :) , and I really appreciate your humor, I wouldn't mind joining you at the pub and getting thrown out with you. There's always other pubs, :D .

Back again :D

I have done some surfing and asking people about this problem.
I maybe have found the reason that my website was trown out of DMOZ in disgrace......

At that time my website was hosted at a server with several other sites.
The sites had different domain names but the same IP.
My site was not the primary site and the primary site was suggested.

This is reason enough to be thrown out of DMOZ but info about this is to be found NOWHERE!
Why is that?

However my site was resuggested after I found out and my site is now at my own server.

Off Topic:

is about at site which is listed in two categories.
And there is more than one spamreport on this...

Cheers

The hosting arrangements for a site are pretty much irrelevant as far as an ODP listing is concerned -- indeed very few editors (and probably an even smaller proportion of the general web-surfing public) would even have the technical knowledge to work out the IP address of a site, let alone bother about looking for other sites with the same physical host. How would the host affect the usefulness or uniqueness of the content to the surfer?

What would of course matter is if the site was one of a collection of two or more related sites -- in which case we would probably only want to list one of them. If that's the case, then changing your host isn't going to have any effect on the listability at all.

I'm not going to comment on an individual abuse report, but you should be aware that there may be nothing wrong with some sites being listed in more than one category. And even if it's not appropriate in a particular case, it could have been the result of an error on the part of the editor, rather than being abuse.

Just seeing a site listed twice isn't evidence of abuse. Unless you have anything stronger, you'd probably be better using the "update listing" link on the category page of whichever listing you think is inappropriate, rather than filing an abuse report.
