Thank you for the quick response, and the suggestion to request an additional listing. Great idea.

Yes, it really is quite cool working in a caboose.

Paul

Re: www.antiquewatchco.com- 01/20/04 update please

I apologize for the redundant post. However, it seems likely that w/out some indication to the contrary in the Subject line, this would just look like an old post.

Hello:
Just checking in to request an update on the status of my submission. My submission to the Regional group was accepted VERY SHORTLY after your kind suggestion. Thank you.

I am checking on the following:

http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Clocks_and_Watches/Watches/

I cannot find your submission waiting in that category. You should resubmit.

Re: www.antiquewatchco.com- 01/20/04 update please

Thanks. So, is the listing still awaiting review in that cat?

Also, my submission was originally to the Watches cat...I swear it was... really...it was. Should I submit to that cat also, or wait for a decision (although I can't think of any reason for rejection), then ask to be moved?

Thank you,
Paul

Shopping/ categories are a bit backlogged. When an editor comes around to your awaiting category, he/she may move your suggestion to the proper category. It may take some time, however.

So what, may I ask, is next?

Thank you for responding. It's been 5 months since my 2nd request for submission and over a year since my first. It doesn't seem logical that resubmitting would do anything but put me at the bottom of a list that already has my entry on it.

Any suggestions?

Suggestion: Be patient. There is no need to worry about an ODP suggestion, it will be processed eventually.

Another 6 weeks

Sounds like a bad Sandra Bullock movie...

Please let me know the status of my request to have www.antiquewatchco.com listed in:

http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Clocks_and_Watches/

Also, it now seems as though my regional listing has been dropped - please refer to said listing in December's post above. Now, when I do a "search the entire dirctory" search for "Antique Watch Company", I get nothing. Is there a reason... logical or otherwise... for this? Or, am I just plain wrong?

Thank you for any assistance with this matter.

Regards,
Paul Vaughn

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have read the FAQ. How are we not eligible in the Shopping directory in one instance, but listed in the Shopping directory in another (the Regional link you supplied)?

We sell antique wristwatches and pocket watches, and service them. There are over 150 watches for sale on the site.

From the Shopping FAQ:
"Shopping/ contains sites of which the primary focus is to allow the consumer to select and obtain goods and services over the Web."

This describes my site.

From the Antiques and Collectibles sub-category of Shopping:
This category is for dealers specializing in antique and collectible items. This includes both items of considerable age and brand new items which are produced for the primary purpose of collecting. Also included in this category are sites which sell services or supplies to the collecting community.

This also describes my site.

Please explain under what pretense do we not qualify?

Disclaimer - I'm not a Shopping editor

I just had a quick look at the site and cannot see how to order remotely.

I can see a catalogue, I can see prices.
I can not see any ordering information, shipping area and cost, or method of payment.

My understanding is that the Shopping categories are for actual shopping - ie you should be able to go to the site, and find all the information required to order and pay for an item, without further communication. Whether that's by fax, mail order, email, online ordering, or snail mail is irrelevant, the site must provide all the information.
Shopping/ contains sites of which the primary focus is to allow the consumer to select and obtain goods and services over the Web. Common examples include:
Integrated online shopping-cart systems that allow the user to order directly over the Web
Online shopping-cart systems that allow the user to generate an order form to be sent to the merchant via fax or mail
Simple directories of products and prices that the user can order via mail or phone.

The Regional shopping categories, on the other hand are for bricks and mortar stores you can walk into and buy stuff from.

There is some overlap where the delivery area is restricted to a geographical area, such as a single State, in which case the Regional category is most often used.

Hope this helps

I understand that you are not a Shopping editor, and appreciate your input. There is an "Order this watch" link on each watch specific page. The link takes you to the Contact page. Your point is a perfectly valid point of design that I will address.

That being said, was your first reply a fact... my page WAS rejected... or an opinion that it may have been rejected? If the latter is the case, how can I find out where I stand... IF I stand... in the queue? In the case of the former, if I have been rejected for the reason you stated, how do I point out the fallacy?

Respectfully,
Paul

It was reviewed and deleted [by an editor with a lot of experience]. If you really feel that you have a case, I would suggest resubmitting it with an explanation.

I tried to look at your site again, but the search does not work right now. [I know it did last time I looked]

I would also suggest you remove the ~~ Coming Soon ~~ message from that page, because if the search failed when an editor reviewed it, and they saw that message, they might have a problme listing it again.

BTW I love the http://www.antiquewatchco.com/html/884.html - if they only paid me more here I could afford more watches.

Heck, you get me listed and I'll work a sweet price for you on that watch :)
... just kidding. I know you can't and wouldn't do that.

That really bites. I waited well over a year to get reviewed and then got rejected because of an incorrect assumption by an experienced reviewer. The "Coming Soon" is on page 6 of the Pocket Watch page and lists inventory that we are in the progress of listing. In order for the reviewer to even hit it, he/she would have had to at least glanced at other currently listed inventory.

Is there any way to contact the reviewer and ask for the reason the site was rejected or is there a rejection notice that I did not receive? I'm not asking to be immediately re-reviewed, but if there is another reason, I would like to know what it is.

I'm certainly not sniping at the messenger, but this is thoroughly infuriating. To be given SO much weight in the world of search engine success, DMOZ/OPD sure is a lottery of hit or miss web pages.

One last thing, please. Where in the world is an app for becoming an editor? I scoured the FAQ and pages and found nothing but references.

Thanks again for all of the info.

Paul
